If towing a boat I'd rather use surge, but my ability to control braking force with the electric controller is desirable for me on the dolly. There are advantages and disadvantages to both and good arguments both ways. The steering wheel remains locked as the dolly has a pivot table with adequate swing. The set up used by American Car Dolly worked best for me as I did not want to locate and wire up a controller in the drivers position of the MH. Also I can turn the electric controller system off for no dolly braking when I am towing the dolly without a vehicle loaded. For safety sake I decided to add a break away switch (with battery) for about $35- $40 which took me about 15 minutes to easily install. We load up in about 10-15 minutes and hit the road. There are many good dollies out there. Just shop around for the one you think suits you the best. I just could not find one that better than this opportunity which has exceeded my expectations. Thanks Rascal! I am maybe doing too much research before I take the plunge. Your American seems, and I read you say stout, but not as sturdy as the others. Also, I am leaning more to surge brakes. Hello all, Has anyone had any experience with the Landgrebe Tow Dolly? It has Caster Steering vs a pivot plate. Just wanted some feedback. What is the best bang for the buck for a pivoting tow dolly that the steering wheel of the car can remain locked? I think I like that feature as well as hydraulic surge brakes, disc form. I looked at the Demco products but they are way to expensive!!! Acme Eze Tow looks good but you have to unlock the steering wheel. Any thoughts on Master Tow dollies?
