Just want to let you all know that I fired up the Cummins 3000 watt generator and it runs great. I plugged an 1800 watt toaster-oven into it and set it on 450f and it worked flawlessly. It did not want to start with the choke closed though. I opened the choke and started it that way. It was about 55f outside - maybe it needs colder outdoor temps to use the choke. No big deal. This baby is just what I wanted - thanks for all the great infos and replies. And that owners manual is a joke. It tells you to fill the gas tank with oil. Hello everyone - my first post I have read this whole Chinese Generator forum and I am posting due to the fact that I am electrically challenged - dont have a clue when it comes to anything electrical. Any help or guidance anyone can give me would be much appreciated. This past weekend I purchased a generator from Cummins at one of their Truckload Sales. At first I thought this generator would be just what I need, but after reading through this forum I am not sure now. The sales people really were not much help with my questions and I can return this generator if it turns out it will not meet my needs. I have not filled it with any gas or oil yet and I'm hoping you all here can determine what I should do. The generator is this: The motor is stamped with the Jiang Dong name and is described on the Cummins website as having the following features: 6 1/2 HP gasoline engine with United States EPA certification Two - 110 volt AC 60Hz grounded receptacles. 12 VDC 10 amp connection. 2.6 KW rated output. 2.8 KW maximum output. Electronic ignition system, recoil start. 3 1/4 gallon welded wrap around roll cage for easy transport and to protect the generator from damage. Overall dimensions: 23 3/4" (L) x 18" (W) x 18" (H). Average run-time is 4 to 4 1/2 hours. Oil alert system designed to prevent engine damage caused by an insufficient amount of oil in the crankcase. Approved for use in California by the California Air Resource Board. In addition, it says 'Single Phase Gasoline Generating Set' on the front panel of the unit. In a nutshell, my question is: How can I determine (before I actually try it) if this is one of the models of Chinese generator that will allow me to run my air conditoner as well as other smaller devices at the same time via the RV pigtail? The salesperson told me that the 3000watts is the running watts and that 4200watts was the max, but where he obtained that info is anyones guess. I contacted Cummins for help but their techs don't have email and it is a toll call to ask a question. When I called I was informed that no-one was in the department to help me get my question answered. So far not so good. I also would like to know how I can tell if this is a brushless generator or not. I took off the end-cap, but I don't know what to look for. As far as the electrical needs for my RV, I don't think I need the 220 (240?) connection or adapters because the hook-up line looks like it just plugs into a standard 110 outlet. It is an older model 1977 Coachmen around 28 feet with 1 air conditioner. In your opinion, should I return this unit? I paid $338.88 plus $16.94 tax.
