Taking 13 south the CBBT if you go that way is a great drive, 13'6" overhead clearance. something most folks don't do often, and then once on the south end take 158 south in Chesapeake and go to the outer banks. You can either cut back to the west through Manteo to rejoin 17 south, or take the free ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke, and then a pay ferry to go on down toward Morehead City NC. And rejoining 17 near Jacksonville or Wilmington NC If the journey is the thing, this is the best route. We've been that way a couple of times and I feel like it was bad from anywhere south of DC. If you decide to come through Virginia as opposed to heading south through NC, avoid I-64 east of Richmond. Here is your Virginia route.Re: The Bowlus is Back BackOfThePack wrote: A brand-new Bowlus is expensive? In what way? . It's also a work of art with its own aesthetic. I've just noticed folks look at backing as a separate maneuver from driving forward. Isn't it the same path for the wheels? Do you remove (or not install) the bars when pulling out of the driveway? How is pulling out different from backing in? Yes. I live in Richmond and that is my route north and south. Rt. 234 is 4 lanes mostly. Also I-95 through Richmond is a piece of cake. Even rush hour doesn't come close to being a PITA when compared to DC, Baltimore, et. al. (I also take Rt.15 out of Harrisburg to Rt.17 to 95.)
