Couple of bumps along the way with blown trailer tires, broken WD hitch, etc...but overall it was an awesome trip and the Suburban pulled like a beast! Whoa! How did the WD break?? Glad you made it. Sounds like it was an awesome trip. My thoughts exactly. Glad you are alright. I recognize that pull-out along Jackson Lake. Not sure exactly how or when it broke, but I believe it happened somewhere on 287 out of Yellowstone. Actually didn't even notice it was broke until the following morning in Butte when I was doing a walk-around before taking off again. It ended up snapping the bracket in half that the sway bar connects to on the frame of the trailer. Luckily there was an RV place in town and they were able to get me all sorted out. It was definitely one of those moments where I looked at it and thought "Wow, that could've been bad!". Good eye on the location Renee, that's exactly where I snapped this pic!Re: Post your tow vehicle pics hereJust finished a pull from Miami to Seattle with the new Suburban I picked up a few months back. 5525 miles and 734 gallons of gas makes it the worst gas milage ever, but what a pleasant experience compared to the Trailblazer SS! A 30 gallon tank only gets you 120 miles. That's really pathetic. There are a lot of places in North America where one would simply NOT be able to use a vehicle like that. There is no price of fuel difference in the world that could lead me to justify using this vehicle over a diesel getting at least 3, probably 4 times the fuel mileage this one gets. Umm...This is definitely not a gas vs. diesel debate. He mentioned there may be an issue with his specific vehicle. You are speaking as if 4mpg is the standard for gasoline vehicles, when in fact a diesel engine with an issue could suffer a similar fate. Your point about range is valid, but again, it's a one-off scenario. Lets just return it to picture posting. Sorry I original asked about MPG's and potentially sparked all this. Carry on.Re: Post your tow vehicle pics hereYeah, thats a very good point. Probably not the place to steer off into an in-depth discussion on MPG's. I'll pull my thoughts together and toss them in a new thread. Happy New Year everyone!Re: Post your tow vehicle pics hereAre any of you guys using custom tunes, after market exhaust/intakes or anything else to help with MPG's on your Suburbans?...or just running stock? I'm curious if there are any solutions producing gains that are worth looking into. I mean I'm guessing there are no magic bullets or anything, but it seems like even a small gain would be helpful.Re: Post your tow vehicle pics here Goostoff wrote: My 454 Suburban twed our 32 trailer like nothing. The gas mileage really sucked bad though. Good to know. As for the milage, thats what I'm hearing...Guess I'll start looking for that second job to feed this monster then ;)Re: Post your tow vehicle pics here tragusa3 wrote: Very nice DJ. I'm envious and anxious to hear how she tows! Thanks! I'm anxious too actually! Was leaning towards getting a Crew Cab truck for quite a while, but I think the Suburban is going to work out much better with the dog riding along. I like to keep her crate with me so that if I need to go in anywhere for a minute, she can be secured. She's unfortunately been known to tear up tinted windows when left out, so the Burb is going to provide plenty of room for that. Mickeyfan0805 wrote: Congrats DJ. We picked up our 2500 Burb (8.1/4.10) a little less than a year ago. We're now towing a 35' trailer at 8,000 pounds and she handles it liked dream. Gas usage hurts, but the tow experience is incomparable for an SUV. This is very encouraging. I will be pulling a 28' trailer that weighs in around 6-7K, so I'm hoping for a pleasant experience. The TBSS always pulled it OK, but really struggled when there was heavy side winds. Also, I avoided any mountain grades because I was unsure if it could handle it. Coming down the back side of the mountain is not where you want to find out it couldn't handle it! In 2013 however, we're hitting the high ground. So watch out Trout, you got a break in 2012 but I'm coming for you this spring! :BRe: Post your tow vehicle pics here djcordel wrote: Here is mine. But seriously though, after going through a few pages of this thread I have a serious case of truck envy going on right now. There is some really nice trucks posted in here for sure! Anyways, I'll be in the corner pouting if you need me :( After a few weeks of searching around for a replacement for the TBSS, I ended up getting this 2005 Suburban 2500 LT with the 8.1L & 4.10 gears. Excited to get the TT hooked up to it and see what it can do...But I'm pretty sure it will be up for the task!Re: Post your tow vehicle pics here lpxguy wrote: COOL! I always wondered how a TBSS would tow a TT...I had a '06 brand new and traded it on a new '08 Tahoe ...then traded up to a '10 Silverado 2500HD after ordering our 31' TT thinking it would tow better fearing the short wheelbase Tahoe wouldn't cut it....how does it do anyway? AND don't pout....that TBSS will smoke most tow vehicles here in the 1/4 mi.! :B Yeah man, it yanks the trailer no problem. In fact it has zero issues getting up to speed or even taking on the hills. However, as you mentioned with your Tahoe, the wheelbase is a bit too short for the 28' TT pictured. I've found on windy days it gets a bit sketchy even with the WD/Sway control setup. Ultimately I'm looking to pick up something a little beefier for towing, but I'm just trying to get the funds together so I can keep the TBSS too. Would love to just park it in the garage and only take it out every now and then for a doughnut or two!Re: Post your tow vehicle pics here Here is mine.
