Saw some fantastic sights.Re: Solar mounting hardware on Palomino M2902Thanks for the responses. I did a little disassembly and under the rubber sking of the roof is 3/8" plywood. Not sure if there is foam insulation under that, the frame components were in the way, but I doubt it - except Joe stated his has the foam... Shouldn't interfere with a well nut expanding, though. It's going to get up to 50F this afternoon, so probably the best day to put the panel's on; it's only gonna get colder. Deciding to be quick and lazy with wood screws, or use the well nuts and have to drill large holes.Re: Solar mounting hardware on Palomino M2902Thanks 2oldman for the links. Mostly, I guess, I'm curious about the roof construction on the TC. Then I'd know which fastener to use. It seems, through a vent hole under the propane tank, the outside is one inch foam with plywood on the inside. Not sure if the roof is constructed in the same manner beneath the roof's rubber. Sorry if my question was too vague...Solar mounting hardware on Palomino M2902I'm installing solar panels on top of my truck camper - a 2013 Palomino M2902 - but I'm unsure of the construction of the roof. Installation plans call for using a5/8" well nut, but that assumes the brackets are being used on an RV roof 3/8" thick. The TC roof seems thicker (plus I don't want screws sticking through the interior) and if there is foam for an inch, beneath the rubber roof, I'm not sure that would be strong enough hold the panels using well well nuts. Any advice?Re: Reconnecting through camping and photographyTCs and photography seem made for each other, due to the locations one can reach. Glad you ha e fun together, but a good photo site doesn't have to be a popular one. The areas with few visitors are often great sites, and you'll find less-photographed scenery...Re: Distance traveled in a dayOP We drive until we see something or someplace we'd like to explore, and stay as long as we're interested. Each place is different and may or may not capture our attention. You don't know until you get there. I think it rather destroys the spontaneous enjoyment of travel to set a relatively fixed amount of driving time.Re: The most secluded remote RVing spots in the U.S. old guy wrote: hey, don't be telling him stuff like that about eastern Oregon. We have had it nice a quiet for many years and we like it this way. we are a nice place to visit, just don't move here. That is what a Governor of Oregon told the people of Calif many years ago. I went on city-data website several years ago looking at places in Colorado to move in our retirement. Boy, did I run across some snobs who advised me, quite rudely, that that Colorado was THEIR land and they did NOT appreciate outsiders moving in and occupying THEIR wilderness areas, since it would mean less for THEM. One was a guy who stated he had moved there 20 years previously when he had taken a job with a mining corporation. I suggested that a great portion of the land was federal land, owned by all US citizens, but that I could understand their feelings - the native Americans must have felt much the same way lol. I met a lot more decent people than idiots! I must admit. We love Colorado area, and the Yukon is also nice for privacy. I'll have to spend a few weeks in Oregon now! just out of meanness...Re: Folding KayakOurs is a canoe - an Ally 17- not a kayak, but I thought I'd add it to the discussion anyway. Packs into 2 duffle bags and does not use inflation - aluminum folding frame. Handles beautifully. Can be car topped like a hard shell boat. Assembly easy, but takes about 25 minutes with a cranky back lol. This is a flat water design which tracks excellently, but they make a rockered version for white water. I've not paddled a finer canoe of any construction. They also make shorter models. Weights 47 lbs btw. Options include a skirt, pontoons for fishing, it can take a trolling motor and a third party sail kit. Replacement parts and repair kits easily available. I just had no visible guideline. Started wondering if I couldn't pack more on top ifI conserved using smaller wattage panels. Found a 50 watt 24v panel ($100 each) and I could conceivably squeeze 14 to 16 panels on top lol. Haven't run the numbers yet..
