I don't know of too many vortec generators on any aircraft that are designed for high speed. Most are designed to improve the low speed performance, such as decreasing the stall speed, or improving the lift, by improving the air flow over the wings. rgatijnet1 wrote: MountainAir05 wrote: FWiW although shaped differently there are vortice generators below the window of a B727, B737 to keep the boundary layer attached to lower the noise in the cockpit and other places to keep boundary layer attached at higher angle of attack. I had an Aero Engineering friend who did development test in a wind tunnel for the fairrings on top of OTR trucks some 40 years ago now. They were able to quantify the savings by actual research with the loses for crosswinds and other factors.IIRC the average crosswind is about 6kts. Which is what bothers me about Air Tabs. While NASA has explored the shape, I find no research done to quantify and confirm all the anecdotal evidence in use. A wind tunnel and scientific method is all that is required. If they do what they say you can be assured they would be on every commercial piece of equipment. 2-4% fuel savings is not chicken feed in that discussion. IMHO Re: Hurricane MatthewMy condolences, too, Bill. East Coastal Florida not a good place to be. A small westerly drift of the eye will make a big change the number of folks that see hurricane winds. SR 27 is good road. Take it west to 98 and come up the west coast. 98 is a bit curvy but good road. Take 98 to SR 27 in Panama City then to I10. Plenty of Camp grounds along the coast, too.Re: Hurricane MatthewThose in Florida should flee west first, then North. I95 will likely back up quickly. The west side of the state, so far, is not expecting much wind or rain. It is foolish beyond words to see if your RV can take 150 mph direct hit by a palm tree.Re: What kind of Class A do you recommend?2 years before retirement we dumped our TT and bought our used Dynasty. We have been thrilled with it. We lived in it all but 8 out of 36 months until our new house was built. Buy your lifestyle choice. There are two things you need to discover. Air Leveling and Aqua hot. Decide if you want them. If you like them the choice narrows a lot. You can distill the whole Class A discussion into two camps. Inevitably I hear from gas MH owners about how much money they saved buying a gas MH. From diesel MH buyers I hear, this thing drive like a dream, it is so quiet and my favorite: I didn't save any money but Wow! This is a great lifestyle! Either way it is so much better than a TT.Re: Windshield has a gapI just had my windshield reset at Alliance Coach in Wildwood, FL. They ordered a new gasket and reset the windshield. This is common on our vintage one piece Windows. They used 6 tube of window adhesive. They dry fit the window first to make sure the the hole is correctly sized, not always a sure thing. If any fiberglass work is required to make hole correct it can get expensive quick. Mine fit well enough to reseal. The service adviser said even after resealing a bad pot hole can break them loose. Good luck!Re: Flat towing vehiclesWe have a 2013 Silverado extended cab 4x4 that tows easily. Put the transfer case in Neutral, transmission in park and go. Tracks well and pulls easy. It is over 5k, I even put my motorcycle in the bed without issue.Re: NHTSA& EPA want to limit speedof vehicles over 26,000 lbsI suppose having a higher passing grade on the drivers test is too simple.Re: DP going up and down mountainsDennis covered most of it. You and I have very similar MH's. I have been up and down I75/77 many times. The exhaust brake is actuated by a foot button, it drives the transmission to seek 2nd gear. Your MH may have a rocker switch on the drivers left panel. If you hold the exhaust brake on it will slow you down till you get to 1000 rpm then the exhaust brake goes to open. Some of the hills will require going down in the same gear you went up in. The MH with out a towed will climb most of these hills at road speeds, although you might have a 300HP ISC or maybe a 330. Your goal is not to use your service brake during descent, save them for a stop. If you do use them, use them firmly then get off. Don't ride them, that wil overheat them. Take your time. You have a MH well suited for what you want to do. Enjoy your break from winter, lots to do in my new home state. Seafood, fishing and lovely weather. Where I live we get 50-60 sometime in the winter. Key West is lovely that time of year! Enjoy!Re: Selecting a Diesel Pusher Coach for Full-Timing Ivylog wrote: What does the above three items have to do with floorplan??? They do not but that was in another post. Nothing. Floor plan is a very individual choice, it's like advising a spouse choice. Did I misunderstand the OP's question? Floor Plan independent, these items have high added value. Tag axle for a high Carry Weight, full time requires more stuff. Air leveling because there is no maintenance while stationary, like wiping them with oil, plus they are usable anywhere you drive without the concern of getting stuck or using pads. Aqua-Hot because you don't have to listen to furnace or water heater, you can take loooong hot showers, you don't have a catchup time, the heat is quiet and even, nearly like hot water radiant heat. My Dynasty is missing the Tag, it sure would have been nice for storage and drive ability. We have a single slide with a mid door, it felt a bit different at first but we have grown to really like it.Re: Selecting a Diesel Pusher Coach for Full-TimingWe just spent most of the last 3 years in our Dynasty. Three words; Tag Axle, Agua Hot and Air leveling.
