Took cover off and found gear slid forward and was completely broken off. Since need new jack and dont want to lose tt for months we are just going to buy a new one. Looking to get automatic one. Gross weight 6540, hitch weight 741. Recommendations on an automatic jack that is durable and easy to install/use?Re: Water heaterWe have narrowed down the first problem...not sure if there is more but we can't get it to light. We have smelled propane so we know it's at least getting to the vicinity of the water heater. Any suggestions?Water heaterComplete newbie with no previous experience other than 2 prior trips.Atwood water heater - avenger ati 27 dbs TT. Last night we had hot water today nothing. This is only our 3rd trip with it..just bought it last month. We have propane, all connections clean, all wires secured, no fuses tripped and haven't changed anything from yesterday. We flip the hot water heater switch and it lights up and clicks but doesn't ignite. We have watched videos and someone mentioned removing water by the t&p valve to make sure it isn't overly full because without the air bubble it wont light. Did we make a compounding problem now?Re: F-250 vs Ram 2500Thank you all for the info! Doing more research lol. Long story short...we would like the following TT and an example of what we would like in a 5th wheel (if we decide to go up). https://www.generalrv.com/product/new-2018-prime-time-rv-avenger-ati-27dbs-687190-29 https://www.exploreusa.com/product/new-2018-crossroads-rv-volante-3801md-781635-5 I'm concerned I'm making an error in my calculations. I calculated that the 2016 ram 2500 crew cab short box 4x2 hemi with a 4.10 axle ratio (max payload 3,610/max trailer 15,940) AND the Cummins diesel 3.42 axle (2690 lbs / 17,510) can each tow both the ones I listed above based on 13%????? We haven't settled on ford/dodge or model yet. Just used that as an example to see if calculating correctly. Any suggestions on a good ford towing capacity chart that has max payload listed? The vin decoder I was using is a little confusing with the list of multiple weights for each line.Re: F-250 vs Ram 2500Oops typed wrong. Looked at wrong line. 6.2 or 6.4F-250 vs Ram 2500Looking at buying truck to tow TT. Starting with about 8800 loaded weight but want room for fifth wheel later on if we decide to upgrade. I'm considering 2016-2017 F-250 or 2500. I know a lot of opinions are preferences but I am looking for people's actual experience and any help with pro's and cons. I have asked someone that frequently tows 18000lbs. He made a couple statements I would like to confirm. With these size trucks won't need a WDH for 8800 lbs. In my research F-250 has sway control. He said at 8800lbs won't need sway control cause won't know TT even there (I've read about the salesmen that say that so want to verify it is really true...FYI....my friend isn't making any $ on my decision) You recommend 4x4 or 4x2? F-250 make sure to get 7.3 engine / 2500 make sure to get the Cummins engine Short bed vs long bed for possible 5th wheel later Any thing else I should consider?Re: Weight questionThank you all for your advice. I truly appreciate it. I don't have much experience with towing or mechanics but my husband was an OTR tractor trailer driver so I am confident in his towing capabilities. He has mentioned multiple times wanting a TT so this is going to be a surprise for him. Hence why so many questions. He is a wounded warrior battling PTSD and doesn't like to get out and do anything where there are crowds. Figured this would be the perfect activity to do as a family that would let him be in a comfort zone in smaller camping/rv parks with the ability to go to his space (in TT) if needed. Think we have decided to upgrade his truck and then I will surprise him with a TT. Again....thank you all.Re: Weight question@bobbo - thank you for your time in posting all of that info. Really really helps @mitch - truck does have the square 2" piece and your photo looks really similar to what they showed us. They said we had the place for the brake but not the "guts" of it so they would have to install it.Re: Weight questionIt does have the tow button. Not sure what it is called but the manual says it gives it more power (runs at higher RPM's).Re: Weight questionThank you both! The WD hitch they were showing us is the husky WD hitch because I didn't want the frame of the truck drilled into creating frame damage. They said it goes around the frame but looking at photo online it looks like it is just another ball slide into where our current generic hitch is. So if I calculated correctly our payload per manufacturer is 1548 - passenger weight = payload of 1138 at 13% = 8753. So my limiting factor is my max trailer weight of 5950. So the trailer I wanted is a no go due to engine size. Can't upgrade that lol...so guess it is find another TT or get a new truck! Is the push/pull normal with all TT's? Not sure I can handle that long distances if it is. What max weight TT should I stay under to ensure I have weight for supplies etc?
