On our trip from East Tenn to New Hampshire at the end of May we towed just over 1,900 miles per the EVIC. Hand calculated, I got 12.4 mpg trying to tow a steady 64 mph. On a CAT scale, the total rig weighed 19,600#. Coming up to TN from So Florida in April, towing my bike trailer with the bed loaded with the stuff we carry back and forth, I got a hand calculated 21.6 mpg at an average 69 mph. I just went through the same agonizing situation. New Montana HC 318RE with a much heavier pin weight thanm my Cougar XLite. We pulled the Cougar all through the US last summer with a 2012 RAM 2500 with a Payload sticker of 2,070# I was probably marginal with that. The new 5ver would put me way over the sticker. As a result of lots of Forum threads read and posted to, I ordered a RAM 3500 Single Rear Wheel CTD. Now the only thing I will worry about is finding a hitch for the factory in bed 5th wheel prep. I contacted Husky and they sent me an email on Jan 20 that an adapter is in development. Did not say if it was a "picture frame adapter" or like the Curt adapter. I purchased and installed a Truxedo Deuce soft cover because it had the access to the front of the bed tool box. It was used for my Cougar XLite 28SGS for 8,ooo miles last summer and now will be used for a 2014 Montana High Country 318RES. The RAM 2500 has a locking rear tailgate, so the cover is locked at the back. It folds back in the front for access, but cannot be lifted past that section. Numerous roll ups and roll backs show no wear. I am extremely pleased with this cover.460Views0likes0Comments
