Departed in the evening at 630 pm. 495 > 90 > 84 > 81 very little traffic made it to Scranton in about 6 hrs. First fuel stop in Danbury Ct. around 170 miles. Exit 8 off 84, Global gas, easy in and out. Second fuel stop just prior to Scranton, exit 8, Liberty Travel Plaza, Mt. Cobb. A couple of sections E & W bound of 84 in NY west of the Hudson are under construction and reduced to one lane for several miles. Several areas of rough road in both NY. and PA. on 84. Other than that pretty smooth going all the way down to Knoxville. You should be fine with the hills. Ran into several 3rd gear / 50 mph climbs with my set up. I preferred manually shifting to keep the revs in the sweet spot. You have a good new bypass now around that town. BUT at Gilmer take TX 155 through Tyler to Palestine, TX. You will have a loop around Tyler and also at Palestine. @ Palestine take US 79 and follow it all the way down to Rockdale to take US 77 S. At the intersection with TX 21 take 21 through Bastrop to San Marcos where you will pick up I-35 Not everyone will prefer this route since there are many 2 lane highways, but I like to avoid the traffic in Dallas, Waco, and especially Austin. Lots of good places to overnight along this route. I will only mention Tyler State Park and Bastrop--either Bastrop State Park or the LCRV (Lower Colorado River Authority) on Lake Bastrop. At least you have some good choices. At Gilmer stay on 271 as it is mostly 4 lane except a few miles south of Gladewater. 155 is almost all 2lane to Tyler and it merges into 271 on Tyler's North side so your back on the same road. Me , I would stay on 30 to Tx 19 and take to Athens picking up 31. It's 2 lane but straight as an arrow . Looks good. Thanks. How’s the traffic on 35 through the cities? That is the route I take all the time to Lexington, KY. Lots of good campgrounds in the Land Between the Lakes Area just off this route. Also the Kentucky Horse Park near Lexington. In a little more than a week, heading down to Lackland AFB for my son’s BMT graduation. Hoping to get some opinions on the various possible routes. Have a reservation for the week at Travelers World in S.A. and will be making overnight pit stops randomly along the way. Plan is to take 81 to Knoxville, from there not sure. A) 40 to 30 into Dallas and head south on 35. B) 40 to 75 to 59 to 10 through Houston. Google suggested a third alternative route. 81 to 68 (MD.) , Bluegrass Pkwy. down to Nashville to 40 to 30. Sorry I don't remember specifically. I just remember being pissed off the first time I tried to watch a DVD in our brand new trailer and having it not work properly. A couple minutes of tweaking stuff and it worked fine. Was glad to not have to take it back to the dealer as I discovered the TV had a big scratch on it and already had to have them replace that item, I definitely didn't want to go back for another TV related issue. Side note: Camping World had the replacement TV delivered to my house about an hour from their dealership by one of their guys. I signed a waiver saying I received it, handed them the old TV and was good to go. I def appreciated that service. Finally got a chance to check things out in more detail. Just as you said.....
