Thank You for your kindness and your caring for your fellow traveler. As a side note, DW and I stayed at the Moab Rim Campground on our trip to the Grand Canyon in June and on our way back. As with any repair job, you really don't know what you have until you get into it. Can be an easy job or it can be a can of worms. If you are handy with tools, then go for it. Take your time, take pictures as you take things apart for when you put things back together and do the best you can. Use a good quality floor replacement, you only want to do this once. I have had my Forest River Surveyor for two years now and have had only one problem, the ignitor for the water heater was misaligned and would not light. A slight movement of the ignitor and problem solved. Have had no other issues. I then look at my pickup, it has had five safety recalls for repairs, two computor chips replaced, the radio replaced. Goes to show you, no matter what you buy, be ready to fix it sooner or later. It doesn't matter what it costs.480Views0likes0CommentsRe: Dometic refrigerator at higher altitudes
DW wife and I went to RMNP in August and had same problem with water heater and fridge. We where at 8,300 ft in the Moraine campground, so said my GPS. After a few days of trying to keep the water heater and fridge lit and running, it dawned on me that at higher altitudes, less air causing not enough air for combustion. I opened the water heater cover and took off the fridge outside cover thus allowing more unrestricted air to get to burner for better combustion, or so that was my thoughts, and it worked. Fridge pilot lit and stayed lit and water heater lit off, had a ok flame but not the best. Both ran fine for the next five days and the pilots never did go out. Not saying this is a cure all for everyone, just my experiences that might help someone the next time they are at higher altitudes. Equalizer now offers a hard rubber pad to place on the L bracket under the sway bar. Reduces noises greatly, not all, but a lot. Equalizer says that it does increase sway a little bit because of the small amount of friction that is reduced by the pads but DW and I just returned from 2,000 mile trip and I myself really didn't feel any loss of sway control. I really like these pads because they do reduce noise. DW is happy about that. Cost was if I remember correctly was $15.00 plus shipping. I also use Dawn, have been for over 20 years. Does a good job with a little elbow grease and a scrub brush. I use one with a stick handle to keep off them bad knees, a lot less effort needed. When I first went to a TT instead of a tent, the water storage was a BIG concern to me because I got ahold of some bad water on a backpacking trip to the Grand Canyon and got a good dose of Guardia. A water born bacteria that I would not wish upon my worst enemy. Anyone who has had Guardia knows what Im talking about. Any how, I searched the web and found a newsletter from the Dept. of Health and to summerize. 1. 1/4 cup of chlorine bleach per 15 gallons of water, unscented bleach, pour into bucket with 2 gallons water and let sit for 30 minutes, never said why. 2.Pour into fresh water tank,fill tank with water, flush all water spigots in camper and let stand for 24 hours. 3. Flush system until you can no longer smell bleach. It is recommended that water sit in fresh water tank for no longer than 6 months without usage. I have followed this advice for a long time with no problems yet. Personally, I would not let water sit that long. 30 days is my max and then I drain everything and refill with fresh water.
