My wife actually found the issue and fixed it after I was going crazy. I removed the plywood covers over the wench / cables and I didn't see anything obvious. However, my wife noticed that the 4 cables were twisted together - I had assumed they were supposed to be that way. One of the cables had become "frayed" and a couple of strands were broken can causing them to all become twisted together. We untangled the 4 cables and put electrical tape around the problem cable to temporarily keep it from grabbing the others. I do plan to replace the cable but the important thing is that all 4 corners are returning back to the right height to close up the camper. 'I wanted to be sure others knew the "fix" as I had a hard time determining what it was and there is not much information on this issue on the internet. Thank you all for your ideas. I do appreciate your replies.Re: Popup Camper Top - RR corner won't completely lower / closeThanks for the replies. this was an issue when I bought it used a few months ago and I assumed it was just something easy. There is nothing obvious in that area as an obstruction. The dinette in in that area and it collapses down. I have ensured nothing is in the way. I take it down slow and feel around / push in the tent material as well. I have had 2 other popups in the past so they are not new to me. When it gets around 1" left, it is done. no movement. anyone know how to take that apart? There are 3 pieces of square tubing inside of each other that raise and lower together. thx!Popup Camper Top - RR corner won't completely lower / closeI have a Jayco - Jay Series 806 small popup camper that we purchased recently. Great little camper but the right rear area of the top (facing the bumper) won't completely come down. (~ 1 inch up versus all the other 3 corners). I have lubricated it; checked the cables and they all look good. It is like there is something inside the square tubing that is blocking the last inch of lowering. (just a big guess). There is nothing inside stopping it like cushions, etc. I can put all my weight on it and it doesn't make any difference. I didn't see how to open it up (the square tubing) and check it further. I thought many of you may have had popup campers prior to going bigger so I thought I would put it here on Tech Issues rather than just the Folding Camper forum. Any ideas? anyone ever tear into one of these on a Jayco popup? Thanks in advance!Re: Champion 3500/4000 Generator won't run AC unit? Thanks much! I will plan to change the oil ASAP. JohnRe: Champion 3500/4000 Generator won't run AC unit?Ok, the issue is resolved!!! Thank you all that suggested it was likely other items trying to start/run at the same time as the AC. I have no way to guarantee other items were running back when I had the issue (we have been camping since and I turned off the water heater when we headed home) but I am 99.9% sure it was likely the Water Heater. I flipped all the other breakers and started the AC on the Champion Generator with barely a difference in the generator. I ran it or over an hour and it was perfect. Thanks again! JohnRe: Champion 3500/4000 Generator won't run AC unit? Thanks for all the input. I plan to try it tonight and will ensure all the other items are turned off. I have a very strong feeling that you are all correct in that regard. Thanks again and I will report back!Re: Champion 3500/4000 Generator won't run AC unit? garyemunson wrote: How big is the generator? Sorry... it was in the subject line and not in the message itself... 3500/4000Re: Champion 3500/4000 Generator won't run AC unit?Yes, that could be a very valid point....I am not sure if all the other items were turned off -I know the fridge was but not especially sure of the water heater... I know they drag a lot of power. How do I turn the converter off from charging the batteries? I can plug it in to shore power for awhile before trying again so the batteries are charged but I am not sure how to disable the converter. Is that one of the breakers?Champion 3500/4000 Generator won't run AC unit?Need some advice. Many years back, we had a travel trailer and I purchased one of these low-cost gensets. It was a little loud but sure ran the 13,500 BTU AC unit and other little items in the camper just fine. I used it extensively after Hurricane Ike for power to the house as well. I finally just wore it out so I decided I would buy another one just like it and simply leave it in the box until I needed it. (I did pull it out and put oil in it but never started it - didn't want gas in it...). This was probably 4 years ago so it has just been sitting in my shop. A few weeks back, we lost power at home so I thought "well, we can sleep in the 5th wheel tonight and at least have Air Conditioning". I went to the shop and gassed up/powered up the Champion generator (started very easy). The 5th wheel has a 15,000 BTU Dometic AC unit but the generator is still within the specs to handle the bigger unit. I let the generator run for 5 to 10 minutes or so and plugged in the RV and flipped the switch for 120v. (It has a 30 amp RV plug on it). When I turned the thermostat on inside the 5th Wheel, it bogged down the generator so much (almost dying due to the load), that I quickly turned off the Thermostat as I was worried about hurting the AC unit. I tried it again a few minutes later with the same result so I have not messed with it since. I have not contacted Champion yet. There is a "800" support line to call and I likely will but I thought I would ask some of you your thoughts. While the unit is "brand new" from a running point of view, it is now certainly out of any warranty period I am sure from Champion's point of view. The AC unit is just fine when plugged into shore power. Thoughts on this generator and why it would do this? In hind sight, I should have tried it out when I first brought it home but I didn't want carburetor issues even though I use Stabil in all my small engines. Thanks in advance for your advice!Re: Atwood 6 gallon Water Heater - Not working on Electric..Bumping this question. Anyone have thoughts on my intermittent electrical issue? Thanks much!
