Drove through it and its packed but adequate for a night. If you are driving through to Carmel, there is a RV park on the Carmel River. From there you can drive into Big Sur or just go as far as Point Lobos SP. You will have to park the Motorhome out on the Hwy and walk into the park, its definitely worth it and a great alternative to driving into Big Sur. From Carmel, back track up to Monterey and take Hwy 68 over to 101 to get down to Paso Robles to take 41 over to Morro Bay.Re: Heading west to drive hwy #1 south to San Diego? If you are coming over this week, the weather is forecast to be epic. You can come over thru Paso Robles and camp in San Simeon to visit Hearst Castle or even head further up Hwy 1 to the next campground at Plaskett Creek if there are sites. That puts you at the southern end of Big Sur. This is the best time of year to visit for warmer weather.Re: Bears and garbageHahaha!:)Re: First Camping Trip this year!Sounds fun! Love some wine!Re: First Camping Trip this year!Sorry! We had such a rainy winter last year we couldn't even get to into the campground we like down there with the mud slides and bridge out. Had to drive all the way around over the mountain in April just to get in a weekend. Much easier drive this time and the weather seems to be cooperating too! One good thing about a drought year, camping year round!First Camping Trip this year!Leaving next Thursday for 6 days in Big Sur, my favorite place. So far so good on weather and our group keeps getting bigger. Lots of beach and surf time, just what I need! We dry camp and set up a day camp a couple days either on a side road or at the NF Beach parking area to get some variety. :CRe: National Parks, Utah and CaliforniaThere is a nice KOA in Mariposa you can stay at to visit Yosemite. It is about an hour drive to the park from there. We left the campsite at 6 am and drove in to get a parking spot in the village. Kids woke up at 7:30 parked in the valley, it was pretty cool! We have also gone in thru the Wawona Entrance but not sure about camping with hook ups there. It was all dry camping. Have fun in San Diego in June!Re: How much longer will we get to enjoy camping with our son?My 13 yr old son is not as interested in camping lately, but still comes with us on all our trips. We allow him to bring a friend most trips and also, we allow him to play his ipad 1 hour a day to keep him sane(and us too!). We go on a lot of weekend trips within 2.5 hours so its easier for his friends. My now 17 yr old daughter loves to camp still and will amend her work schedule to get a weekend off to join us. She will invite a friend or two and drive separately so they can do day trips. We bring tents to have more room and plan to be near a beach or lake for water sports. I know eventually we will down size to a smaller RV for just hubby and me which is fine, there are always a spot for tents at our favorite sites!Re: First time... full time.If you are in Sonoma County, check out parks out in Guerneville and on the Russian River. There are some out there that allow monthly rentals, if there are any available due to the fire. Sounds like a great way to enjoy life!Re: Scored a NICE cargo van - let the fun begin! Thanks for posting your pictures. My hubby and I are considering doing this same thing. Great ideas!
