I've used a 2 inch extended hitch shank with an adaptor to fit a 2.5 hitch on two Ram trucks. We've got maybe 30,000 miles on this set up with no issues. Sorry, late to the subject. We just traded a 2016 Ram 6.4 for a new Ram 6.4. The 16 Ram towed a fifth wheel to Alaska, around Western U.S. and to Florida and back to North Idaho, and it did just fine. We averaged 8.5 MPG hand calculated towing. The new truck just finished a trip of 2900 miles through the Western U.S. and the Oregon coast---averaged 9.6 MPG hand calculated. Our trailers weighed between 10,000 and 10,300 (Momma's shoes weighed a lot!!). We were happy with the 16, but the 2023 Ram does a better job in our opinion. Not to be a bummer, but----get an attorney ASAP. The dealer couldn't care less about your unit, just that they got the sale. The manufactureing company will string you along as long as they can, until the "warranty" is up. The cost of legal fees will be far less than your hand wringing and bad experiances. Also, the insurance company might be of some help, but probably not to much. I spent a few years in law enforcement---- document everything!!!!! Time, date, person spoken with, phone number--everything. When you mail USPS, send it with a tracker to prove the article arrived and whom signed for it. I found the rig I wanted --- a 2023 Ram 6.4 black, Laramie with brown interior. The sales department said I will get 42 MPG at highway speeds and 27 towing!!!!!!!!! In fact, the mileage is So good, they can't even print it on the window sticker!!!! O.K. Maybe the mileage is inflated a bit. The truth is, the truck I found was just dropped off at the dealer, and I was first in line for it. I actually thought I wouldn't fine a gasser I wanted, so I was asking about the fuel mileage. Thanks to all----- This gives me an idea as to what to expect. For note, the trailer I tow is a Outdoor 24RKS that grosses out at 9995 lbs. It looks like I could expect about 10 to 12 MPG towing. The last diesel I had was a Ford 6.0. It usually only went to and from the dealer for repairs, with an occasional camp trip squeezed in between. Robin W, I admire your wishes for adventure----However, in my opinion, leave the trailer for better weather. I've been over all the routes mentioned on here, and for a beginner, none of them are probably safe for a first timer in winter. Now, I'm surmising that with a handle of Robin, you might be female---DO NOT let that stop you from becoming an avid RVer!! My bride of over 5 decades is very capable of getting out there and going down the road. Old OTR driver here. Also very familiar with Placerville and the sierras. Head East over 50, then up to I-80 would be my sugestion. I-80 is a pretty good choice overall for East/West travel. Salt Lake City is a bear for traffic, but we time it for early or late in the day. Now, for an ODD stop to streatch your legs-stop at Dix NB-Exit 29 on I-80 and walk to the active missle silo on the South side of the exit. Yep, I've stopped there twice to realize how small my problems are. Don't touch the fence or do anything stupid cause you're on camera, but what you see there is the reason the U.S. is a world power. Well, I have to confess that I've seen all I can see of Naked & Afraid, Swamp People, and The View-----So, I went to the dark side and started watching RV videos. Understandably, my views might be different, but at least I enjoy the travel videos. Now, I think a new segment is coming on about a lady that explores hot springs in California. I glued two 120mm fans to the inside of the black plastic refer grill. They are at an angle so the fans blow upward. I placed a small switch on the outside of the grill to turn the fans off/on. I have noticed an improvement in the refer temps. I had one fan, the switch, and had to buy one fan for $13.00. The best part of this story is that I did not have to go to ER while doing this mod!!760Views0likes0Comments
