Their are several campgrounds around boone/blowing rock area,and lots of good hiking along the parkway,most with great views.

I assume your taking 221 from Marion to linville,I would just take 221 from linville to 105 into boone and pickup 421 in boone.You can ride it on your bike and decide yourself,you can get to the blueridge parkway from several places and ride it back to linville. Good luck safe travels. .

We're in the process of doing the same thing,kids are grown and we just didn't need all that room.and like you said theirs lots of places we've wanted to go for years that the 5th wheel was just to big.

Could try air mattress made for hiking ,I have one I use while hiking I got on amazon takes very little room self inflating when unrolled sleeps well.
