I would have this looked at as suggested above...we had something similar though leaking at the bottom versus the top. I found out when black mold appeared through the wallpaper. Service, at my cost, fixed the issue.
Cats ... on our property we actually leave the hood open on our truck in the barn so the cats keep creepy crawlers from chewing on the wires! I'm not a cat person, but having them on the property (not in the house) works wonders.
