Good point. Many travelers overlook this issue and are caught completely unaware when their claim is denied. The Cdn Gov't has issued an "Avoid non-essential Travel" warning for most of Sonora, Sinaloa and Nayarit https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/mexico. The Manulife policy (obtained through Costco) states that it does not cover "any medical condition you suffer or contract when an official travel advisory issued by the Canadian government states, "Avoid all non-essential travel" or "Avoid all travel" regarding the country, region or city of your destination, before your effective date." It then states that "This exclusion does not apply to claims for an emergency or a medical condition unrelated to the travel advisory." Typically this is Insurance Company doublespeak to confuse travelers. Remember that the Number one rule for the Insurance Claims Adjuster: "Do anything you can to avoid paying a claim!". Hwy 93 from Lake Louise to Jasper as mentioned by Bobsyouruncle is a Parks Canada Hwy. I was planning a fishing trip to Ucluelet this summer. I'm from Alberta. Here's the message I rec'd yesterday from the company that I used to book our accomodations: "For Canadians traveling across interprovincial borders by car, there is a possibility that they will be stopped at a checkpoint and asked to provide documentation of cottage ownership. If you are unable to produce it, then you may be forced to turn back. In order to meet Provincial Health guidelines and Work-safe BC guidelines we must adhere to the guidelines of this ever changing situation. Where inter provincial travel is not permitted there will be a local requirement that we check ID from travelers to ensure they are residents of BC Road checks have been ongoing at the Tofino and Ucluelet junction to date over all long weekends and holidays, as the summer months come on they most likely will become a daily occurrence."
