If it were a 180 day with a deposit, you would simply lose your deposit and they would cancel it at the border. Totally incorrect. If you do not cancel your TIP they will not issue a new one for that vehicle.Re: Travel insurance for CanadiansGood point. Many travelers overlook this issue and are caught completely unaware when their claim is denied. The Cdn Gov't has issued an "Avoid non-essential Travel" warning for most of Sonora, Sinaloa and Nayarit https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/mexico. The Manulife policy (obtained through Costco) states that it does not cover "any medical condition you suffer or contract when an official travel advisory issued by the Canadian government states, "Avoid all non-essential travel" or "Avoid all travel" regarding the country, region or city of your destination, before your effective date." It then states that "This exclusion does not apply to claims for an emergency or a medical condition unrelated to the travel advisory." Typically this is Insurance Company doublespeak to confuse travelers. Remember that the Number one rule for the Insurance Claims Adjuster: "Do anything you can to avoid paying a claim!". Everyone should have Emergency Medical Insurance, but read the policy very carefully and be sure you know what you are getting.Re: where to stop for the night charlestonsouthern wrote: Proud Canuck -- I have never camped in Canada, so forgive me if you think this is a weird question. Are there any provinces in Canada which would allow a person towing or driving an RV long distances to just pull into a rest area, truck stop, visitor's center, forest service road, etc to overnight rather than drive tired on the road without sleep? We have even asked managers' at Wal-Marts here in the US because it was late and given permission to overnight in their parking lot rather than risk an accident on the road. I have a few Canadian friends, and they are the type who would be compassionate and even allow me to overnight in their driveway if it were necessary. Overnight stops are much the same in Canada as in the US. Walmarts, Costco, Rest Stops etc are usually OK with you pulling in overnight, but exactly as in the US, some do and some don't. Hwy 93 from Lake Louise to Jasper as mentioned by Bobsyouruncle is a Parks Canada Hwy. It is owned and operated by Parks Canada, so their road....their rules.Re: where to stop for the night BobsYourUncle wrote: One place I have seen where there are places to stop is off Hwy 93 heading from Lake Louise towards Jasper. If you head north at the Sask Crossing turnoff there are a number of places where you can overnight including a few Government CGs. Not sure on their closing times though. A lot depends on how far you will go in 1 day too. Parks Canada Rangers will stop and ask you to move on if they find you overnighting anywhere but in a campground. All campgrounds north of Saskatchewan Crossing are already closed for the winter. At Jasper, the Wapiti campground is open till Oct 11.Re: Where are you going to spend the winter? playaboy wrote: Roads are in the best shape I have seen in 20 years. Lot of new asphalt everywhere. Lots of new gas stations too. playaboy wrote: I am driving to PV from the States. 15D in Sinoloa is TERRIBLE, big potholes everywhere. I shredded a brand new trailer tire yesterday. ????????????????Re: Canadian Covid new restrictions just now wapiticountry wrote: Canada has had nearly 20,000 deaths and 775,000 confirmed infections. I wonder how many of those are from out of country travel versus just one good ole Canuck infecting another. I think the cat is out of the bag, so trying to seal up that bag is more political posturing and less actual prevention. I guess the factual answer to your question on how many came from out of country travel is "All of them."Re: Another article on Snowbirds, or the lack thereof Galvanizd wrote: BarbaraOK wrote: joebedford wrote: Galvanizd wrote: he tells me he's acquired the product and is just waiting for Dec 21 What's the significance of Dec 21? The border will stay closed for probably another 6 months (less if the immunizations roll out faster than expected). It is just an arbitrary date that was chosen about 3 months from the last date - they don't know how long the high rates of infection will increase so extending by 3 months at a time. Its the date the Canadian government picked. Its 30 days at a time And from the past, doesn't look very arbitrary Again...... I'm not going to Canada ...its too cold.... I'm just waiting for my jelly. Previous Canada-USA border closure extensions Here is the history of the Canada-USA border closure due to the coronavirus: On October 18th, the border closure was extended to November 21st On September 15th, the border closure was extended to October 21st On August 14th, the border closure was extended to September 21st In July, the border closure was extended to August 21st In June, the border closure was extended to July 21st In May, the border closure was extended to June 21st In April, the border closure was extended to May 21st In March, the border closure was announced from March 21st to April 21st Why do so many people blame the border closure on the Canadian gov't? The decision to close the border to non-essential traffic back in March was made jointly by Canada, the USA, and Mexico, and all the extensions since then have been decided on jointly. Also, it is the US gov't that is allowing air travel across the border while at the same time blocking land crossings. Canada has nothing to do with that loophole.Re: Any one else giving up snow birding due to the covid qtla9111 wrote: People will do anything to try and get around the rules. It's still not sinking in. Staying put is of utmost importance. One starts to move they all start to move and then it's out of control. Anybody who goes to all that trouble has no respect for government, rules or human life. Very sorry to hear the extremes people are going to. Rvers are flooding across the Mexican border as well. The rules officially say "border closed" but the government refuses to enforce restrictions so the attitude is, "if I can get away with it, why not?". Very, very well said!!!Re: Changes to Snowbird lifestyle and Snowbird communitiess jsummers72 wrote: A Sept article in the Anchorage newspaper on the Border closure Extension said CBC says they're allowing 5 crossings per day in the "Western States". It's allowing crossings at 5 border crossings, not 5 crossings per day.Re: BC Residents onlyI was planning a fishing trip to Ucluelet this summer. I'm from Alberta. Here's the message I rec'd yesterday from the company that I used to book our accomodations: "For Canadians traveling across interprovincial borders by car, there is a possibility that they will be stopped at a checkpoint and asked to provide documentation of cottage ownership. If you are unable to produce it, then you may be forced to turn back. In order to meet Provincial Health guidelines and Work-safe BC guidelines we must adhere to the guidelines of this ever changing situation. Where inter provincial travel is not permitted there will be a local requirement that we check ID from travelers to ensure they are residents of BC Road checks have been ongoing at the Tofino and Ucluelet junction to date over all long weekends and holidays, as the summer months come on they most likely will become a daily occurrence." Sounds to me like they are advising against any out-of-province travel to BC. This accommodation was in a commercial rental not a campground. :(
