All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Factory alarm system for 1998 DodgeI got the following response from Roadtrek Service: "The alarm system was not installed by Roadtrek and may have been installed by Dodge as part of the original unit. This would be something that a Dodge dealer should be able to help you with maybe." I am assuming from this that our van did have an alarm system as indicated by the previous owners. I confirmed this the hard way. I think if someone were to break a window, pull up a lock button and open the door the alarm would sound. A few days ago around 6AM at a nice quiet campground, with all the doors locked the previous evening via the key fob, I pulled up the lock button and opened the door. The horn honked about 4 times before I was able to get to the key fob and disarm the alarm. An embarrassing but learning experience.Re: Class B Campsite Photos - Let's See Them! One night stay at the West Chester/Philadelphia KOA; 1998D190V Re: 1998 Roadtrek 190 Dodge ChassisAn update. We had the cabin checked out at a local trailer dealer/service place. They went through the propane system and replaced one valve. They also found that the water pump was not working and replaced that. They went through the operation of everything; furnace, hot water heater, fridge and stove. I replaced the smoke detector as well as the CO and Propane detectors (4 years out of date). I found exact replacements on Amazon.com. The air conditioner and microwave work on 110V. We took out the old Panasonic TV and mounted a 15" flat screen TV/DVD player on the side of the cabinet which we now use for storage. We took our first trip last week; four days (about 800 miles)to the PA Brandywine Valley area. We learned a lot about living in the van, dealing with our two small dogs, etc. Everything worked fine. I was particularly concerned about the fridge and switching back and forth between LP, 12V and 110, but it worked fine and kept the ice cream we had taken frozen. The front brakes (totally replaced after we got the van) developed an intermittent irritating squeak-squeak-squeak about 1/3 of the way into the trip. It would quit temporarily after tapping the brake pedal. The braking action was fine, no pull to right or left, and no loss of brake fluid, so we forged on. The squeak disappeared on the way home. I pulled both front wheels and found nothing amiss; rotors were smooth with plenty of pad left. The only thing I can attribute this to is that the squeak developed immediately after we took a lunch break in a town park with a gravel road. I am wondering if some foreign matter got kicked up into the system somewhere and just got itself worked out as time went on. Thanks again to all who provided advice and suggestions.Factory alarm system for 1998 DodgeHas anyone had any experience with the optional factory installed alarm system for Dodge? We have a 1998 Dodge Roadtrek 190-Versatile that we acquired in June. It is activated by locking the vehicle with the key fob and deactivated by unlocking it with the key fob. The previous owners said it worked and described a recent event when the wife accidently set it off. I didn't test it until a few weeks after we bought it and it didn't work. The only thing I can think of is that I disconnected the van battery for a few seconds while checking the battery posts. I am wondering if this deactivated the system. I haven't found anything on the internet. The local Dodge service department rep didn't thing that disconnecting the battery would cause the problem and suggested bringing it in for a diagnosis($99). If there is an easy fix for this I'd appreciate knowing about it.Re: Fresh water tank question - 1998 RoadtrekThanks for your suggestions. I positioned the van so the low point of the tank was in a better orientation and was able to fully drain the tank. I ran the pump for a short time at the beginning of the drain time and opened the sink and shower faucets. It is still taking a long time to fully drain. I'll try the 2 gallon suggestion as well.Re: Sewage hose assembly questionI was able to remove the hinge by grinding off the heads of the pop rivets and gently pushing them out of the pipe. I didn't want to risk puncturing the flex hose by drilling them out. I heated the hinge to red hot with a torch which freed it up, painted it, and re-installed with pop rivets. I'll make sure to keep it lubed.Re: Awning on a 2010 Popular 210 RoadtrekWe just got a 1998 Dodge Roadtrek with that same awning. At least with our van, the support bars that attach to the van body are located inside each end of the awning part that you pull out from the awning compartment on the van. The supports swivel out and fasten to those two plastic pieces attached to the van body. Their lengths are adjustable with a round clamp handle on each which locks them at the proper length. There is another adjustable bar that we found stored on the inside of right hand door of the toilet/closet enclosure. This attaches to plastic pieces in the centers of the awning compartment and the frame piece that you pull out of the compartment. It helps keep the awning from sagging in the middle. Our crank handle is attached to the wall next to the toilet. Your set up may be different than ours but this may give you some clues about yours.Fresh water tank question - 1998 RoadtrekThe low point on the fresh water tank of our 98D190V has what appears to be a sediment filter attached to a T fitting. The end of the T opposite from the filter has a cap which I presume is removed to drain the tank. The third end of T is a connected to a water line which leads upward into the cabin and I presume goes to the pump. Do these filters clog up? Yesterday I was flushing out all the antifreeze from the system and when removing the cap to drain the tank found that the water flow was decent at first but then slowed way down. The tank did not appear to be fully drained according to the monitor. The filter does have a zip tie on it which implies to me that it may be serviceable. I now want to sanitize the system and would like to fully drain the tank (am also concerned that this may be a problem with winterizing). Any suggestions would be appreciated.Re: Checking out 110V system in 1998 RoadtrekWe went through the routine with the breakers and everything turned on and appeared to work on 110V with the possible exception of the fridge. We need to get RV level and give it some time to see if it is working.Sewage hose assembly questionAnother newbie question regarding our 1998 Dodge Roadtrek Versatile-190. The hinge for the sewage hose assembly is rusted closed. For the last few days I have been blasting it with PB Blaster and rapping it with a small hammer to try to free it up. I am thinking of applying some heat with a propane torch while protecting the pipe and cover with wet rags. Maybe the assembly will need to be replaced, but I'm not sure where I could get a replacement. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have tried to attach a photo, but may not work.
