My dash air turned out to be a connection coming off the condenser was cross threaded at the factory, thus it would not hold a charge. Once the A/C shop removed that bunged up connectory... Dash air is cold again! My Check Engine light issues turned out to be a wiring loom was hanging down and rubbing on the drive shaft. After 4 visits to Cummins and Freightliner, I finally had to be towed in, when the tow truck drive pulled the drive shaft he discovered the loom with several wires worn through. All fixed and running great now! 10k miles last season... getting ready for our first trip this season! Not a lot of rattles, but it is still new. I had a squeaky door that was fixed with some Talc powder. Love this coach! MalRe: Looking at a Kountry Star DP, Opinions?Caterpillar no longer manufactures Over the Road diesel engines. They couldn't or didn't want to meet the EPA requirements for clean diesel. Parts for Cat's seem to be more expensive My experience is with marine versions of both Cummins and Cat (as well as Detriot). Both provided good service and both had their following. IMHO... either engine will provide good service and shouldn't be a factor in considering a DP. Focus on floor plan, service records, general condition etc. MalRe: High altitude driving issuesSuperchargers are engine driven intake manifold air compressors and therefore have parasitic drag, but do not have the lag associated with turbo spool. Turbo chargers are exhaust gas driven manifold air compressors and do not have parasitic drag, but by nature have a lag in the time it takes to increase the intake manifold pressure. Pros and cons to each method of increasing intake manifold pressure. MalRe: Coachman qualityI have a Coachmen SportsCoach (2013 385DS). It has the ISB 340 hp motor. I don't care that it is "not sleeved" as I will never keep it long enough to see the benefit during a rebuild! It pushes the coach nicely. Can I do 100 mph up a 6% 3 mile grade? No. Will it get me up and over? Yes. I get 10.5 mpg hand calculated (miles driven / gallons used). As far as quality... My coach came with some really nice amenities for a "lower level" coach. Polished tile floor throughout Dual Pane windows 8kw Gen Outside Entertainment Center Solid wood door cabinets Auto Leveling Jacks Rear and side cameras 17' Power Awning Full width basement slides I have had no issues with the quality of the build... I have had some minor issues with both the Cummins engine and the Freightliner chassis... both resolved quickly. The cost of my coach was at least half of what a "higher end" coach would have cost. Funny... I don't see the people in the high end coaches having double the fun. To each his own. MalRe: cars to towMost anything with a clutch. We just got a '12 Chevy Cruze set up to tow... it tows easy (<3k lbs), a nice driver car, and gets great gas mileage (35 mpg).Re: FIRST TIME MOTORHOMEWhy are you yelling?Re: cost of koni shocks and installationOhhh... price of shocks installed... D'oh. I'll shut up now and go back to my Mai Tai's MalRe: cost of koni shocks and installation koda55 wrote: I think wca01 meant $1000. $1000 to install 4 shocks!!! EEIEEE!! I should hope not! It's two bolts for each shock. One on top one on bottom....Re: Acceptable Delivery Miles bsinmich wrote: The chassis may have been built somewhere and delivered to the IN. factory. I have seen bare chassis being driven. The warranty didn't start until you took posession. Is that even legal?Re: Forest River/CoacnmenI have a Coachmen SportsCoach 385DS (2013). It is nice. I have had some teething issues, not on the part of Coachmen though (Freightliner issue). Fit and finish is what we expected. It is a really nice unit for the price we paid. (1/3 of what the high end coaches cost) and it gets us to the campgrounds, with heat, AC, hot water etc! Feel free to email me, I'll help you with whatever questions you have (or even send pics!) Mal
