Replaced it two years ago with a 1 ton GMC Explorer extended conversion van 6 liter V8. Much longer and heavy duty vs the Ford. AS with the Ford, I removed all the seats except the two captains. Also removed the big TV, video game stuff etc. Now have a nice long living area compared to the standard length Ford. The tv used to fully occupy the compartment above the passenger and driver seats. Now it is handy storage for raincoats etc for easy access. Built a platform bed with room for good sized storage bins underneath for extra clothing, food, gear, etc. Installed a small galley with a butcher block top, microwave oven and storage for paper goods and utensils. Installed a roll around tower type ac unit which vents out a tip out window. The 6 liter V8 and heavy duty one ton (ambulance chasis) makes it a gas hog 14 hwy but the ride is great. I left all the topside built in storage cabinets in place. Cary a portapotty and gallon jugs of water. No water supply or sink. Small frig for perishables. Ice chest for dry camping. Two long trips so far and very happy with it. PS: sold my 38' MH 2 years ago. Can go many places the MH could not. Gave up creature comforts for much lower costs and ability to go most anywhere.Riverside Retro 193Looking at this TT to tow behind my 1 ton GMC Van. We like the floor plan and tandem axle. 21'10" and queen bed. Price about 24K fully equipped. Silver color not retro. Early on this company had quality issues. Any opinions appreciated! PS: sold my motor home and looking to go small. Mini Winnie probably better quality?Re: Gunnison to Ouray to Durango COThe drive on 550 is a must see trip. Driver has to pay close attention to the road. Passenger gets a wonderful view. Got to see the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. When in Durango take the train ride to Silver City. Its a hoot and the Animas River canyon is beautiful. And Mesa Verde is a short trip from Durango. Ken and Sue's is my favorite eatery in Durango.Re: Niagara Falls to MichiganBe prepared for grumpy border officials on either side of the border. I have seen them do a total bumper to bumper "strip search" of a MH. Don't know why they were but I was glad it wasn't me. Didn't have anything to hide but that guy was stuck for quite a while for sure. It may have been a random event or perhaps they had reason to be suspicious. Who knows. I haven't crossed over since. Also check with your insurance companies. Friend of mine's wife broke her ankle in Canada and their health insurance did not cover any of the hospital costs for the emergency room, doctors, xrays etc.Re: Tulsa to Gulf ShoresI can vouch for I49 from Shreveport to I10. Good route. I was heading to Dallas so I don't know the best way from Tulsa. Be sure to take I12 past New Orleans and reconnect with I10 after passing NO. Some uneven pavement on sections of I12 but I just slow down a little..Re: Route 88 in New YorkI ran it two years ago from 81 to Albany and other than some bumpity, bumpity from the paving it was a nice ride with light traffic. I 81 from Harrisburg to Scranton was much rougher and lots of traffic.Re: Florida to MaineI84 after 81 is fine. Its heading between I78 and Scranton that's really rough on 81. I used to run it all the time, sometimes on up to I88 to Albany, but not now unless its smoothed out.Re: campgroundsWilliston Crossing is where we stay when visiting friends in Gainsville. Its a super nice park with level concrete pads and long pull thrus. The campgrounds right off I75 are LOUD truck traffic all night. Its about 16 quiet country miles from either of the south Gainsville exits to Williston, then use 27 south to Ocala from Williston the next day. Its about 20 mins off 75 but a lovely modern super clean RV park. Big swimming pool, ultra clean modern showers, etc and winding paved roads thru shady oaks for an evening stroll. After pounding down 75 its a nice two night relaxing stay if you want a break. We have been all over the US and there are not many parks nicer than this one for a very quiet relaxing stay.Florida to MaineHeading north in early June. I usually take I95 to 17 to I66 to I81 to I78, then 287 to 87 north to 90. Is construction on 17 close to 95 been completed yet? Is 95 straight thru Richmond still good at midday? Sometimes I take I78 to 33 to 209 to Port Jervis and then 209 up to 87 at Kingston. Last year I took I81 all the way to I84 but it was construction hell and very rough through the mountains with a lot of very narrow single lanes. From I90 I turn north on 91 to Brattleboro and the east to Manchester and 101 to 95 in NH. Over the years I have used just about every route including 95 all the way (once and never again). My round about routes add about 100 miles but skip the Washington to and thru Boston headaches. Last fall on the way south I95 through S. Carolina was much improved since they ground the concrete smoother. No more roller coaster bounce. Sure would appreciate any road condition reports. Heading out after Memorial Day rush is over. How about it Chuck? Bet you covered some of this recently! :)Re: Hwy 285 from Fort Stockton Texas to Carlsbad, NMSorry to hear about 285. That was my favorite route to Santa Fe but have not gone there recently. It used to be a nice two lane all the way from Ft Stockton.
