Old thread but it's never too late to say thank you. Thank you, that was just the tidbit of info I was looking for.Re: Trip report: boondocking in Sonora Pass in a trailer profdant139 wrote: I have a built-in advantage -- my wife is just over five feet tall and very petite. I thought about going that route but the divorce cost was prohibitive.Re: Use caution camping in the Chilcotin!I appreciate the heads up. We traveled through the area, trouble free I might add, and had not a clue there were problems.Re: Trip report: boondocking in Sonora Pass in a trailerVery nice. I had to save it for later reading, but thank you very much. I'm in the process of downsizing considerably and trying to minimalise but you've got me beat by a long shot. Due to close on a Nash 23.5 tomorrow if all goes well. That cuts 6.5' and 5,000#s off my last rig. I don't know if I'll ever be able to whittle it down to your size but one never knows. Thanks again for taking the time.Re: Tires- 3500 dodge truck06 Dodge Ram 3500. Just put my third set of Michelin LTs on. I got 70K out of the first set but only 65K out of the second. Of course the second set I put 16,000 miles towing at or just over my rating on some pretty rugged roads through a lot of Northern Canada and Alaska, so I can't really complain. I wore the shoulders thin on the back tires but I can't really put that on the tires. Miser that I am I would have squeaked out my last 5,000 miles on them anyway but I was getting ready to take off on anther trip so my prudence trumped my cheapness.Re: Advice when you can't find model you are looking for locallyI buy used. The first two I bought 1,100 and 1,200 miles from home. Drive out, brief inspection, hitch and go. That's just my style. I got bit a little on the second one. All things considered, still a very good deal, just more of a project than I'd expected. But we put a solid 17,000 miles towing that rig from South Florida to Fairbanks AK and most points in between. Drove another 1,000 miles to buy a third unit (thought I was done with RVing but it do get in your blood) and turned it down on inspection. Rig was as expected buy my transmission started acting up on the way. I didn't want to deal with an unknown transmission shop 1,000 miles from home, nor pull the rig back with a questionable tranny. Ended up being something I could fix myself for $250 in parts. Lately I've become a Northwood fan and those don't bring much money around these parts. I bought my last rig about 100 miles from home. Not at all what I was looking for but the dealer made an insane offer so I took it. I'm still scratching my head as to why they sold it for what they did. I'm due to pick up my fourth rig on Friday and it's only about 45 miles from home. Those long distance purchases/attempted purchases were all a hoot and fun. It's all one big adventure.Re: 4 season infoNice rig. Congratulations. My first fiver was an Excel, but I just had to have a New Horizons. I should have just kept the Excel.Re: Civil Disobedience at Acadia lizzie wrote: We have a lot of "civil disobedience" here in the National Forests in the mountains. That's not civil disobedience, that's just trash being trash. I have no doubt the same people who trash public lands are the same ones who dump their ash trays in parking lots, dump oil, litter and steal anything they get the chance to. If you go to their home I'm sure you'll find the same thing they leave at parks, trash and garbage strewn about. Make any excuse you want, but human trash is human trash.Re: Boondocking at Big Bend Nat'l ParkYou might also consider Texas's Big Bend Ranch State Park.Re: Nice, cheap, clean, full time(at least monthy) RV parks... CarArt wrote: (no boondocking) To each his own, but I think you are severely limiting your choices. You might want to consider something in between boon docking and RV park camping, dry camping. A little bit invested in solar and some creative changes to your life style opens up a whole new vista of available camping. We have a moderate solar system, 520 watts at 12v, and never wanted for power. Good luck with life, and finding something suitable for your lifestyle.
