All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Indian ReservationsThere should be no concerns about traveling through a reservation. If you are on a state or federal highway, no problem. Just be courteous to people, treat the residents like you would anyother person living in the state. It depends on the reservation, some are closed to all outsiders for many reasons, however, most are open to travelers. Many have casinos and welcome visitors. I'm not sure how you would find out if a reservation is closed, but there are several in SD and in the southwest that are closed due to the Covid rates. Travel through like you would through any community.Re: Apostle Island areaMy first suggestion is to call and determine what will be open. The Covid count is on the rise in No. WI. Many places may be closed or on limited hours. How much time to you plan to spend in the area? Do you want to pull the trailer with you? I would find a campground much closer to the Islands than Pattison, you are going to spend several hours just driving to the Islands. Hi 13 is a decent 2 lane road, but it does have curves and hills, regardless of the direction you take. If you want to see it all, use the following directions The scenic way to see the Apostle Islands would be to take WI 13 from Superior WI to Port Wing, Herbster and Cornucopia. At Corny, stop at Meyer’s Beach and hike out to the Sea Caves. It is a fairly strenuous hike, hiking poles are recommended. Continue on 13 to Little Sand Bay visitor’s center, tour the old fishing camp. Island tour boats are docked here also. Take a swim in the big lake. Back on 13 to Red Cliff Reservation. There is a campground, casino and a tribal park. 4 miles down 13 to Bayfield, take the ferry to Madeline Island. There are nice restaurants and Bodine Fishery. They sell smoked Lake Superior trout and salmon. Hit one or more of the apple orchards for fresh picked or pick your own apples. Down the road is Washburn, and then on to HI 2, turning east to Ashland and then on to MI. Try to stop at the Great Lakes visitor center at the junction of 2 & 63. It is a great place to stop and get some history of the area. Enjoy your tripRe: Summer tip up thru MI, WI and MnWI and MN travel along Lake Superior from the UP to Bayfield and Red Cliff, take the ferry to Madeline Island, take a glass bottom boat tour of the Apostle Islands. Continue on to Cornucopia & Port Wing then on to Superior and Duluth. There are several Great Lakes museums to tour, continue on Hiway 61 to the Canadian border, Superior Hiking trail and many state parks on the MN side. You could spend weeks on this route and not see or hike all of the sights. As suggested in an earlier post, request information from the states, you will get a lot.Re: Minong and Hayward area? Not sure when you plan to be in the Hayward area, it might be hard to find a cg now. I would suggest you check with the Minong & Hayward Chambers of Commerce for a list of cg's in the area. Also check rvparkreviews. Your length of stay is going to depend on what you like to do. This area is primarily a boating, fishing and mountain biking area, with people staying in resort cabins or their own summer cabins. There are only a few museums, limited shopping and restaurants, plus a medium casino. So for me, this is a drive thru on my way to Lake Superior, the UP of Michigan, etc.Re: Medicare and InsuranceTry United Health Care thru AARP. Choose the plan F, which will cover you all over the US. We were domiciled in SD for about 10 years and used United all over the US, for some major health issues. They probably aren't the cheapest, but the docs & hospitals like them as they pay the bills promptly. We had part D through them also. Good luckRe: route thru Chicago areaStay far far away from 30, it goes through the burbs of Chicago, with awful stop & go city traffic, lights every block. The last time I drove it, the potholes were big enough to lose a VW Bug in them. I80, even if there is traffic, is 4 lane, much better. As Bumpy said if going north, I39 is the way to go.Re: South Dakota License RenewalUnless they have changed things, your license is due on your birthday. You can renew up to 180 days prior to the expiration date. If you are unable to get back to SD to physically renew it, you can get an extension for up to a year, that way if yours is in Sept & your spouses is in July or maybe Nov., you can get both of them renewed. Call America's Mailbox & they should be able to help you with the paperwork. If you go back, be sure you get a cg or motel receipt in both your names, it is one of the requirements for a license. I'm not sure about renewing by mail, that would be something else to ask America's Mailbox to get the latest update.Re: Single person - How difficult to do everything by yourself?I've driven a 36ft MH, towing a full sized F150 alone many times. I was better at parking, driving, hooking up than the ex DH was, even tho I had a broken arm still in a cast. Hooking up the toad to the tow bar took less than 10 min, with 2 hands, it took even less time. The main thing is to be methodical about your set up/tear down, use check lists so your don't forget something. The main think is practice, practice, practice until you are comfortable with each step. You can do anything you want if you decide you can. Best WisheRe: Hwy 2 thru DuluthJust be aware that if you take the Hwy 2 bridge, it will exit into downtown Superior as Hwy 2 runs through downtown. It is 2 lane in each direction, but stop lights at each block. If you go up to 535 to the bridge, you will avoid downtown, there will be some stoplights, but once you cross the bridge, you will be on Hwy 2/53. I usually take this bridge just so I can avoid the traffic and stop and go of downtown Superior. There is a nice museum about Bong shortly after you exit on the WI side. Sorry I haven't named each bridge, but I get the names mixed up all the time. Old age is getting the best of me.Re: Medicare Supplemental InsuranceUnited Healthcare through AARP.
