I was wondering how difficult it was to learn after using Windows for years. Eventually, I can see that I will want to switch to something other than Windows. Yea Chris! My new laptop (bought two weeks ago) came with Win 8. First thing I did was put Puppy Linux Precise 5.6.1 (based on Ubuntu)on a USB flash drive and boot from that. Haven't opened Windows since.Re: Using a check listI'm with the OP. I too need a checklist. My last trip, I made it 20 miles down the road after leaving the campground before I realized I had forgotten to plug the electrical connector from the trailer into the tow vehicle (realized it when I noticed I had no trailer brakes!).Re: NJ to SC and Richmond Traffic?Based on my experience (admittedly limited) going through Richmond, I would say go straight through on I-95 if you reach Richmond earlier than 6:00AM otherwise go around on I-295.Re: How over engineered are receivers?I am a retired engineer. Yes, most products are designed with a "safety margin". But, it is just that, a "safety margin". It is not intended to be used up in normal usage. It is intended to extend the useful life of the product and to provide for unforeseen/emergency situations. You may get by for years exceeding a products ratings, but when an emergency does arise,it may well fail from the abuse. If your insurance company learns you were using a hitch beyond its limit, and it fails in an accident, you can bet they are not going to pay. Myself, I am a firm believer in the 80% rule.Re: Prius towing a travel trailer? Yes. The Texan wrote: I wonder how many people are going to call him a liar, when he made the statement "I was standing right there. It was hooked up to the Prius." I know that if I saw that and reported it, then had people call me a liar, it would not help my opinion of these so called fellow RVers........:s +1 If he was there and says it was hitched to the Prius, then it was hitched to the Prius.Re: Anyone go from a Motorhome back to a TT?We sold our motorhome about two weeks ago. There is a lot more maintenance expense with a motorhome. Plus, I felt uncomfortable driving it (too big), and my wife would not drive it at all so I had to do all the driving. She has no problem driving the pickup pulling TT. True, there is more storage with the MH, but we just ended up carrying stuff we never used anyway.Re: Possible Purchase-Opinions PleaseI have a 2008 Ram 1500. That is WAY too much trailer for your truck. It would pull it, but in an emergency maneuver, you would very likely be in serious trouble. You need to be looking at a shorter/lighter trailer (say about 6000 lb max loaded).Re: I got duped spoon059 wrote: Go Dogs wrote: Years ago. My dad had an old GMC pickup. He only used it for hauling. The tailgate got damaged and he replaced it with a Chevrolet tailgate from the junkyard. This was back when the truck brand was on the tailgate. Anyhow, he was stopped by a cop. The cop said that if they were looking for his GMC truck, it would be considered 'altered' by putting that Chevy tailgate on. So, it could be considered an attempt to conceal the truck's ID. Would like to hear from LEOs on that. Doubtful. The only thing you cannot mess with are the VIN's. I used to be a LEO in Wisconsin. It was illegal to alter the suspension or the exhaust system, but nothing would prevent you from changing the tailgate.Re: hitch blocked by another trailerWait up! I've got to go get some more popcorn!
