ThanksRe: Questions and Opinions on RigsI have a 2016 Ram 3500 DRW Bighorn. Leaf spring suspension using Torklift StableLoads. I haven't towed a car as of yet, but I don't believe I'd have any problems. The diesel motor easily runs 70mph fully loaded, climbed well through West Virginia hills, there's minimal sway if any, and I average around 11 mpg. At the time, the Ram was the only diesel with enough payload for the Fox. It's extremely comfortable riding in it and I've been very pleased with the performance. Hope it helps.Re: Odor when using tank heatersThanks everyone. Talked to Northwood service guys and they said that the smell is part of the new tanks being used.Odor when using tank heatersIn my Arctic Fox 1150, I am getting an electrical/ plastic smell when I use my tank heater pads. Is this a common thing when using the heaters for the first time? I plan to contact Northwood, but thought I'd pose the question here as well. ThanksOperating Honda gen in an enclosed generator compartmentI am considering a truck camper that has a large generator compartment. I would prefer a Honda over the LP Onan option that exists in most TC's. Has anyone replaced their Onan with a Honda or other brand? Can they operate within the compartment? Or do they require to be operated in an open space? Clearly there are conveniences that come with the Onan, but I plan to boondock frequently and expect to use the generator 8 plus hours per day depending on the temperature. Access to gasoline will be easier than propane and quieter to operate I believe. Welcome any pros and cons on both. Moved from FORUM POSTING HELP AND SUPPORTRe: AF 990 feedback requestedI always appreciate everyone's posts. Lots of great information. I am thinking a Chevy/GMC 3500 diesel to go with it. I am going to be in the neighborhood of 25-30k a year, so thinking diesel is just the better way to go. Based off of the data I can find on weights, the AF plus myself and the kids when with me will be right at the top of the payload for the trucks. My initial pick was the 1140, but the 990 keeps the weight under the payload rating. In your travels and experiences, is there a reason I should really consider a gas motor other than the initial cost? The additional payload with gas would open up my options.AF 990 feedback requestedI am looking at the 990 and would appreciate knowing any issues you have had with yours or any particular features you really like? I understand from reviews and the forums that they are well insulated. If your a winter camper, how much propane are you using on average and does the furnace run that often to hold a reasonable temperature? Have you had any issues with the fridge being in the slide? Are you satisfied with the slide mechanism? Appreciate your time.Re: Host Everest or Cascade owners?Great info Bedlam. In both your past AF and Mammoth, do you feel the slides are up to daily use? I guess it's the slides that make me hesitate more than any other feature. If I go with a Host, I'd probably use it more as a base camp, leaving the slides deployed most of the time. In your research have you come across any issues with the weight of the slides putting any stress on the rest of the camper? The Northern Lite would be the absolute easiest solution, but I have a 7 and a 5 year old that I would take with me on weekend trips, so the larger camper would be nice. If the Northern Lite had a bunk above the dinette, this would be an easy choice! Does the Host ever feel top heavy to you when you are driving? Or has your choice of truck managed the weight well while going down the road?Re: Any Northern Lite 10.2 EX SE owners out there? Thanks for the response. I haven't had the opportunity to see one yet, but I am leaning towards the wet bath. I love all the available storage space that I could use during the week. As soon as I return from overseas I will get out there and start standing inside them all.
