All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: shakey towing of jeep cherokeeWe just had this occur for the first time with our 2015 Cherokee Trailhawk. We went over a rough patch in the road at 40 mph and the motorhome started rocking back and forth. A quick glance in the rear camera showed the Jeep swaying back and forth pretty violently. I slowed down and pulled over to check things over, thinking I had a flat. All looked ok so we took off again with no further issues. This was the first and only time it happened to us in about 2000 miles of towing. We have a Readybrute tow bar which has an integrated surge brake. I thought the brake might be the problem so I removed it for the remainder of the tow. I'm also wondering if the wide attachment points on the Cherokee Trailhawk might be the cause of the problem (Blue Ox baseplate). This Trailhawk has a wider attachment than the Limited or Latitude, but I guess that problem occurs on all 3 models so maybe not. Does anyone have a fix for this? Now that it happened once I am a bit worried it might happen more regularly.Re: Fla to UP ideas for 2015I was born and raised in Michigan - there are some great ideas above on the UP. We are headed there later this summer. I also highly recommend the Petoskey and Traverse City area - lots to do there: Rent a boat on Torch Lake or one of the other "chain of lakes" Visit Sleeping Bear Dunes - one of of my favorite National Parks with amazing views Drive the Tunnel of Trees near Harbor Springs Take in the wineries on the Leelanau Peninsula with great views of Grand Traverse Bay Golf on one of the great courses in the area Have some great pie at Traverse City Pie company Bike on the Little Traverse Wheelway If you want to try out a high end Class A RV resort - we like Bay Harbor Signature and will be trying out Hearthside Grove this summer. Both are among the best in the country (but pricey!).Re: 2013 Ford EdgeOn our 2011 Edge we had a dead battery after about 4 or 5 hours towing. (It was ok after 2 or 3 hours towing). Even with the key all the way back, and following the manual instructions, there is some kind of parasitic load draining the battery. I installed a Toad Charge and that fixed the problem completely.Re: 2013 Traverse - Looking to set up to tow 4 downAnother vote for the Ready Brute Elite. We've traveled over 10K miles over the last 10 months and I found the Ready Brute to be very easy to use. The braking system works flawlessly once it is properly adjusted. I added a turnbuckle to the brake cable to aid in adjustment, and I also have a light on my dash which shows when the toad is braking. I also added a Toad-charge which was required to keep the battery charged. I have a Demco baseplate which works well with the Edge. I would also consider Roadmaster next time depending on what Toad I have. We used a quality body shop to install the baseplate and lighting kit and they did a great job.Re: Western national park tripGood ideas above. I've been to Ruby's and Gouldings - both are probably the best for Bryce and Monument Valley respectively. If you want a treat in Vegas, try the Las Vegas Motorcoach resort. In the Redwood NP area we liked Redwood RV resort (but forget any satellite dish access as your site will be surrounded by Redwoods). If you are passing by Portland as you come down from Seattle, check out LL Stub Stewart State Park (full hookups).Re: Mortorhome Park AZ.We are currently at Eagle View RV resort in Fort McDowell. It's a very nice park on the Indian reservation near the casino, probably about 20 min from Scottsdale stadium.Re: Whats Your Real Weights? Truck and Trailer. The Real DealWeighed my rig on our trip to FL. We were fully loaded with stuff. All water tanks empty. Full tank of fuel and 2 people in the truck. Truck + Trailer: Steer Axle - 4160 Drive Axle - 5660 Trailer Axle - 10140 GCVW - 19960 Truck by itself: Steer Axle - 4150 Drive Axle - 3250 GVW - 7400 Doing the math: Pin Weight - 2420 Trailer Loaded Weight - 12560 I'm within my limit for the GVWR on the truck (9820 vs 9900) but just barely. Glad I got the 1 ton.
