The price of our custom order was no different then buying off the lot. I can not see a reason to compromise on that much money. It is well worth your time to price it out. Remove the clamp closest to the heating box. Manually move the arm to center of it's swing. Then center the temp knob. Reinstall the clamp and test control knob for full movement. Can't say about swapping gennies, but there is a lot of things that Newmar will do that aren't on the order sheet. We just went straight to Newmar, then gave the build number/sheet to dealers for pricing.
