I just bought a cheapo 12V patio light from the local camp store and wired it into the camper. I think I tapped into the main battery line running from the tongue to the inverter. That was easy to access and always on. Here's a pic of the light: The big red wire is for my FloJet. The wiring for the light is tucked under the frame somewhere. Tom Cool! Thanks for the pic. We went to Lowes and bought 4 4x4 ceramic tiles and put them in the oven. Does the same thing as the pizza stone. I think we were in for a total of 3 bucks... My $.02 Just curious, Have any of the tiles cracked from the heat. I know they have been through a kiln and all but being one that has installed a ton of tile in my day and have seen them split for no reason, I was just wondering if you have split a few. And what thickness of a tile do you use? Standard 3/8 or thicker? Just curious. Thanks JeffRe: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012So I guess my next question would be, Are there 12 volt motion lights? I will have to go visit my little friend MR.GOOGLE Jeff Edit: I just stepped away and thought about it for a minute. A motion light would not make much sense seeing as how there is a horse paddock within 8 feet of the black tank valve. That paddock has two baby filly's in it at the moment that tend to run around a bit at night. So that light would be going on and off all night. So my next thought would be a solar light. But the valves are on the north side of the rig which would get zero direct sunlight. So the decision has been made, I will wire directly from the rv battery (fuse in between) to a switch on the south side of the rig (where my patio is)and run wires to a light directionally above the valves. I will post pics soon after I do this mod. Happy RVING JeffRe: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012 Pitapony wrote: Why not just put up a battery operated motion light? The whole battery operated thing has always turned me off a little bit. I just never liked the idea of going to turn something on when you really need it only to find out your batteries are dead. Then you have yet another job on your hands. Installing batteries in the dark. I am thinking it would work better for me to wire something directly to the 12 volt system. What you are talking about would more than likely work great for someone using there RV for what it was intended for, Camping. But for someone that lives in there rig full time (guess I should have mentioned that) a more permanent solution makes more sense. Thanks so much for the input though. Jeff And you just put motion light in my head which I was not thinking. Thanks againRe: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012So I went out to "Dump the dump" last night. Feeling around in the pitch dark trying to find the valve to the black water tank. Well I found it and got the job done but instantly thought " I need to wire a 12 volt light out here on a switch". I am guessing the newer Rv's have them (If not they should), But I am wondering if anyone has made this mod on there older campers. I will be doing mine soon. At least before I need to empty the tank again and will post pics of what I come up with. Thanks Jeff PS: If there is already a thread on someone already doing this, Please post a link if you know where it is. Thanks again.Re: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012Well I guess I should put THIS LINK here for those who have not seen it. Its pictures of mods I have done to my rv. The link is the same as the one in my signature. Enjoy. JeffRe: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012 MicDuran wrote: 03281 - doesn't that ice maker need space for the heat? The manual says to be sure there is a 6" clearance. How are you venting yours? I'd like to do something similar. I did not vent it at all. The cab that it is in is pretty big. It gets plenty of circulation. Barely gets warm in the cab that its in. If it was a problem though it would be pretty easy to put a vent going to the outside of the rig. There are all types of screened vents out there that would work fine. I guess its just a matter of weather you are scared to cut a whole in you rig or not. I am not!:B JeffRe: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012 mooreadventures wrote: All you have to do is jumper the 3 & 4 pin. I've done it several times. I thought about getting another 'car end' and attaching it to my a-frame like 03281 did, then wire-in a switch. It also makes good scence for protecting the plug. Thanks for the great idea! I always figured it would look neat to have my running lights on at night but never put any thought into how to do it. I tried the fuse trick and it worked great. Being on a permanent site, I decided to take it one step further and put it on a switch. Thanks again! Its on a permanent site, But I have moved the rig a few times. Fireplace is quite light. I just put it on my bed, Tuck it under the covers and shes good to go. Takes around 2 minutes to do. JeffRe: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012Well I have these mods in my thread titled "SOME PICS"but I figured I would add them here where they belong. Bass fishing wallpaper border. I still have more of this I need to put up. More border: 8" powered bass tube. Wired into stereo which is also hooked up to my laptop and tv. Sounds pretty good and is hidden behind a closed door. The black switch on the left turns the amp on and off. I love this little thing: Fireplace. Looks like it has always been there. Throws pretty good heat and looks nice at night. Also the coffee table I found left over at a yard sale for free. Painted it to match. Here is what it looked like before the fireplace. I think it looks much better with! Lights. The lights around the slideout look really nice at night. I use them every night: Decals. I put these little decals in the shower to keep with the fish / fishing theme: Shoe rack turned Sandle rack. Works great to hose off your dirty sandles: Ice maker (under microwave). I am not done with this mod yet, But it makes around 2-3 bags a day: Desk. Found this left over at a yard sale free. painted to match rig. Shower lighting: Skirting: Little soap / Shampoo corner rack. Also shower curtain rod works well for drying things: More pics in my signature. Jeff
