Just wanted to note that Delaware North also hires RVers, although it's true that much of their workforce are housed in dorms (usually in the same area as the RV parking - it's all one big employee village). I was good friends with a couple who worked as floor supervisors at the General Store at the Canyon Village site and they enjoyed what they did. Delaware North's starting pay is a bit less than YA's and they ask for 40 hour weeks - I interviewed with both last year - although if you have specialized skills like cooking or maintenance you could make more than $9 an hour. Hello Becky, how was Amazon?Re: YellowstoneOk, here goes. We worked for The Yellowstone Association 2015 summer and will be returning 2016 summer. We worked in the Visitor Education Center (bookstore) at Old Faithful. This is a paid job. You are expected to work 30 hours/week per person with 2 consecutive days off. We were paid 9.00/hr (may going to 9.50 this year). This is a sales position and you are expected to promote membership in the YA. If you love Yellowstone this is not hard to do. Experience with POS systems is helpful, being tactful with all kinds of people is essential. There are a few slow times but generally you are quite busy. They provided a FHU site less than a mile from Old Faithful and subtracted 120$ /month for site. Many people hiked to work (around the bison). It is a wooded campground and satellite tv is difficult but not impossible. Cell service is adequate if you have Verizon. This can't be said for most areas of the park. You get discounts in the general stores and there is a coin operated laundry in the campground. It's a beautiful, magical place to live and work. But it is a job. The employees have get together soon and you get to know your fellow workers pretty well. Working with foreign visitors is .......an experience! In talking with workers for concessionaires (Delaware North and Xantera) their work force is a little younger with lots of students (both domestic and foreign) and they 'work hard' as well as have dormitory style housing. We did not talk to camp hosts so cannot compare their experience. Hope this helps!Re: YellowstoneYesRe: Canyon campground YellowstoneYou guys working at Canyon, are you working for the NPS or for one of the concessions such as Delaware North? Or is it a volunteer position?Re: Looking for Workamping/Work Opportunities galtgirl wrote: We are workkamping at an RV Resort in the Phoenix area. We are not paid but get our space rent and utilities in exchange for a total of 24hrs a week. I would assume a lot of RV resorts in Florida would also have programs like ours. We are working for Cal Am Resorts in their food service department and are very happy with our arrangements. Just curious, what are your duties for food service? And is that 24 hours each person? Thanks.Re: YellowstoneHave you been to Yellowstone? What do you already know? Are you actually working in the park or nearby. There is very little phone coverage and almost no internet coverage available for the public. You can buy minutes on the Internet at some of the hotels (such as Old Faithful Inn). Verizon is by far the best choice (ATT hardly exists) and it is very spotty. Verizon just last year extended 4g into Old Faithful area. I believe the other areas are very hard to get connection. I am most familiar with Old Faithful area as that is where I work. Yellowstone is huge! Depending on where you are reasonable shopping can be 20 minutes or 2 hours away. Good shopping is in Boseman. Will be very crowded next year with many traffic jams (both man made and nature made - think bison jam.) crowds will be particularly bad from middle of June to end of August. Weather will range from below freezing and snow in May-June and last part of September to 80s in the middle of the summer. But it can snow any day of the year. Think Christmas in August- a Yellowstone tradition. It is a magical place to live in and a little daunting to work in. I'm sure I've missed a lot. Any other questions. BTW you'll love it.Re: Question about hours on Volunteer.gov jobsThanks for the answer.Re: Question about hours on Volunteer.gov jobs afrescop wrote: We have volunteered four of the past five years at a Texas State Park requiring 24 hours per couple for the spot. We worked 12 hours each in three four hour shifts together. t. Just wondering.../all years at same park or different parks? Guess what I'm asking is if that is representative hours of most Texas state parks?
