Contacted Dometic and explained that mine was on the recall list and that it had leaked fluid and would not cool. Was told to take unit to a Dometic Service Center and have them inspect the unit and contact them. Took RV to a CW about 10 miles away. They determined that the boiler tube failed and resulted in the leak. Dometic replaced with a new fridge at no cost to me. Dometic has a Reimbursement Program. If you contact them at 1-888-446-5157 and request Form O6E-076. Follow directions and you will probably get most if not all of your money back. Good Luck.Re: Dometic Refer Recall - Possible Fire Hazard -Update 2/13/07Lee, This is what edge540 said about the same problem. Had my kit installed two days ago. Now doesn,t work. Yes it worked fine on gas or 115 vac. prior to retrofit. I removed fount cover of the kit 5x8 sheetmetal now it works. Guess it restricts draft up the flew. If you haven,t checked yours on gas, may be you should.Re: Dometic Refer Recall - Possible Fire Hazard -Update 2/13/07Chris Same with mine. Took to CW in Savannah. The service manager contacted Dometic and they agreed to replace. Took about 1 1/2 Months but it was worth it. EmeryRe: Dometic Refer Recall - Possible Fire Hazard -Update 2/13/07Central-Iowa-Boy Take it to your dealer and have him determine the cause of leak. If it is the cracked boiler tube he should contact Dometic with the info and in most all cases they have replaced or repaired the unit at no cost to the user. It took awhile to get mine replaced (2 months) but was well worth the wait. Good luckRe: Dometic Refer Recall - Possible Fire Hazard -Update 2/13/07Do the new units coming from Dometic have heating elements that are less than 40 ohms? It would probably be best to find an ohm meter and check the resistance myself.Re: Dometic Refer Recall - Possible Fire Hazard -Update 2/13/07Just picked up my 5er from CW with a new Dometic Fridge. The old unit that failed was a Model 2852. The failure was a cracked boiler tube. Dometic not only replaced it at no charge, they gave me the newer Model 2862. My 5er is a 2001. Thats pretty good customer service for a 6 year old fridge. Thanks for all the good post on this problem. If I had not had the good info that I received here I would probably have just purchased a new unit and gone on about my business. Thanks To All EmeryRe: Dometic Refer Recall - Possible Fire Hazard -Update 2/13/07Mine failed on Monday the 5th. We had returned from a two week trip to Fla. Had hooked up to shore power at home and the Fridge switched from Propane to Electric. Had run with propane on as I always do while traveling. At this time the temp in the fridge was about 39 Deg. This was about 2:00 in the evening. At 5:00 my wife opened the Fridge to bring the stuf in the house, the temp was 45 Deg. I checked to make sure the unit was still on and it was. Removed the outside cover and discovered the Coolant had leaked out. Was aware of the recall so I called Dometic and was told to take the unit to our local Camping World and they would Repair Or Replace. Am taking it in on the 16th. Will let everyone know if Dometic picks up the replacement. CAMPING WORLD INFORMED ME THAT DOMETIC IS GOING TO REPLACE THE "COOLING UNIT" AT NO COST TO ME. LABOR AND MATERIAL.Re: Dometic Refer Recall - Possible Fire Hazard -Update 2/13/07Mine failed on Monday the 5th. We had returned from a two week trip to Fla.
