Just completed our sign using a wood burning tool (Harbor Freight $9). Painted the letters black and coated with polyurethane. Don't go overboard. The signs are often removed and rehung on posts in a more orderly fashion than individuals manage on their own. Your sign might also be moved to a different post in a different location. We have no idea where our sign from 20 years ago is. It certainly isn't where we posted it. That is the same with mine from 28 years back. I gave up looking for it. I just stop and rest there.Re: Roll Call Alaska 2014 GordonThree wrote: GarySandra wrote: Alaska Roll Call 2014 For those leaving in May, it is time to start packing, make a list, check it, then double check. Am I in trouble, my list is 4 columns wide and 3 full pages? :E Unless something goes wrong, I'm leaving on 5/10 :) TT is getting some loving today. Pushed some fresh grease into the wheels, swept and wet-mopped the floor, cleaned out the basement for inventory and re-packing. For those in northern BC and Yukon, how much snow is left on the ground in general? It's all pretty much gone here in northern lower Michigan, but people are still snowmobiling and ice fishing in the UP. Here is a site for the webcam near the BC/Yukon border. Apr 27 still snow. http://images.drivebc.ca/bchighwaycam/pub/html/www/353.html Here is the site for webcams and the site for road conditions in the YT. http://images.drivebc.ca/bchighwaycam/pub/html/www/index-Northern.html http://www.511yukon.ca/Re: Roll Call Alaska 2014 sue.t wrote: Veebyes wrote: Can't believe how attatched people are to their phones. Like it is going to be the end of the world if they do not have service for a day or two. How did people ever survive in the North before cellphones? Turn them off, put them away, enjoy the scenery. The world will continue without you being part of it for awhile. There are enough places with WIFI to touch base with civilization every so often. I remember the days in Yukon when we had a four digit number for our black rotary phone. And just about everybody was on a party line. Still don't have cellular service at our cabin and the land line came in only 8 years ago. An indication that I might have been in AK too long. After the area code and prefix, my number is 00-- (Last two digits not shown for privacy reasons).Re: Roll Call Alaska 2014In a sure sign of spring, the only road into Denali National Park and Preserve was opened Friday to Mile 30. In all, crews — aided by warm weather this spring — have cleared snow and ice off about two-thirds of the 92-mile road. http://www.adn.com/2014/04/18/3431258/denali-park-road-open-to-mile.html?sp=/99/188/189/Re: Roll Call Alaska 2014 3939site21 wrote: Okay. I am concerned about internet transactions using the campground wifi. Does anyone have any experience with "Hotspot Shield VPN"? I have used a Verizon hotspot device since 2006. It is private and secure. I use that for banking or purchases. Roaming costs through Canada will apply. I just skip using it for the 6 days I go through Canada and use the RV park wifi.Or, forget about the world completely and not use the internet. My bill to Verizon is $50.08/month. It even works at my home in Alaska. There are no roaming charges for it in AK. Do you of any other Wifi provider that works in AK? I have a MIFI Virgin and a Straight Talk. This is a link for providers: http://isp1.us/wireless-internet/alaska/ I notice "Virgin" is on the list. You might just call your provider and ask them to be sure. I don't know how the companies are related.Re: Roll Call Alaska 2014 thomasw wrote: We are planning our trip to AK for this year. I am concerned about internet transactions using the campground wifi. Also we watched eagles for hours. No hookups. Also this is closer to the halilbut fishing grounds than Homer. Click here. Do you know how we can make a reservation? This is a very nice place. Thanks No way to make reservations. It is a state park. Another park (you will see this a couple miles before Deep Creek on the right side)is the Ninilchik Scenic Overlook. Possibly 10-12 sites. Most are small. No reservation possible.Re: Roll Call Alaska 2014Here are three more sites to add to the information list for traveling. I use these when I decide that it is time for me to proceed back home to Anchorage each year. The first is road conditions in the Yukon Territory. The second is road cameras in British Columbia. The third will assist for road construction in BC. http://www.511yukon.ca/ http://images.drivebc.ca/bchighwaycam/pub/html/www/index-Northern.html http://www.drivebc.ca/#mapView&z=7&ll=60.940192%2C-126.37342 Be safe. If you are going on I5 in WA toward Canada, there is an RV Park (Bellingham RV Park) just 20 minutes from the border at exit 258.
