I would put El Paso at the very bottom of my places to visit list. Carlsbad Caverns is ~~2 hours east of there. That's as close as I would go to El Paso! DougE wrote: I worked in El Paso for about 2 years. Don't quite know what you can find to do for 3 days. Military town due to Fort Bliss. Juarez across the border is too dangerous. In southeastern New Mexico you can do Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe National Park. Re: Cell Phone RestartI reboot ~~ once per week. Seems to be frequent enough for me. (iPhone 12 Pro)Re: New laptop? The tasks you mention as desired are possible on the very cheapest of laptops. Heck, your current old PC is probably perfectly capable of serving your needs as described! Your budget is the biggest question. An iPad would be a great choice, because it will sync with your iPhone, but APPLE products carry a premium price.Re: Nicest?? CG in or near Bar HarborNicest is subjective, but....... We stayed at KOA Oceanside several years ago. We had a waterfront site that had one of the most picturesque views of any CG we've been to. Every evening, a guy would come in and steam up lobsters in seawater for a decent price. The downside is the cost. I believe we paid $120 per night and this was several years ago. The waterfront site was worth the premium for a one-time splurge however. BTW - No sewer at those waterfront sites.Re: Looking for RV parks near Boston MAFreedom Trail! Don't miss it. It is a pretty easy walk. Dave5143 wrote: Wow, lot's of great advice here. I now have a pretty good idea how we're going to do this. While I have taken my truck into some pretty tight places I absolutely hate, hate, hate most urban parking garages. They are not designed for pickup trucks. I may opt for the parking lot mentioned earlier but I think it will make most sense to leave the truck at the park and take the train. I understand there is some kind of walking trail that takes in the major historic sites. I can't remember the name of the trail though. We will want to take that. Re: Smart Light BulbsAs an additional note....... Philips Hue are by far the best bulbs out there with the most flexibility, but they are also the most expensive! If you're looking at a lot of bulbs, sticker shock will quickly set in!Re: Smart Light Bulbs rk911 wrote: i'm considering dumping my old style light timers replacing them with wifi smart bulbs. lots of questions i hope others can answer. - most of the smart bulbs will be in fixtures that are on timers year round but some of the smart bulbs will be in other fixtures that are occasionally used on an as-needed basis. will the smart bulb also function as a "regular" bulb? will it lose its programming if turned off at the wall switch or fixture? if it holds its programming how long will the bulb's programming be retained when the bulb or fixture is off? The smart bulb will retain any programming, HOWEVER, when you shut the power off to the bulb and turn it back on, the bulb will come on at full brightness, until the next program event kicks in. You can use a wall switch as needed, but when you power the switch back on, the bulb will be at full brightness till the next programmed event. - we have a planned momentary power outage each week when our stand-by generator tests itself under load. will these momentary outages (~5-seconds) disrupt, alter or cancel the bulb's programming? does the programming reside in the bulb or on the PC? the PC at home is on a UPS so there is zero interruption to it. Again, when the power comes back on, ALL bulbs will turn on with full brightness until their next scheduled programmed event. - i don't care for or need smart bulbs that can change hue or color. prefer soft white especially in the lamps that will see occasional use. LEDs are notoriously harsh. can anyone recommend a brand that's not so harsh? Go to Home Depot or Lowes and look at the display bulbs they have. You can play with them and see exactly what type of light they offer. - do smart bulbs come in 3-way wattages such as 60/100/150 (equivalent)? can i get single wattage bulbs in the equivalent of 25 or 40-watts? No typical 3-way bulbs are available in led, but they are almost all infinitely dimmable. Yes, you can get led's in various wattage equivalents. - the upfront expense is ok but i sure don't want to be replacing them often. for those that have them what has been your experience in terms of longevity? not looking to go cheap nor am i wanting to take out a mortgage. looking for good value. Odds are that ALL the bulbs will live longer than you. - do the bulbs come with an app for my iphone/ipad? do i program them with those devices or with my PC? Focus on bulbs that are compatible with HomeKit for use with iPHone's/iPads. There are a number of them. Check out CNET.COM for reviews. - any other opinions, cautions or words of wisdom would be appreciated. thanks. Re: Looking for RV parks near Boston MAIt's hard to imagine that someone who can drive a nearly 50ft truck/camper combo around the country cannot navigate with just the truck in Boston. Sure, there are neighborhoods (North End) where streets are very tight and you should avoid that area. If you're comfortable maneuvering your pickup, drive in, follow signs to Government Center and park in the large garage right near Quincy Market. That'll put you in the center of pretty much everything and give you easy access back onto the expressway when leaving the city. If you're a very timid sort of driver, by all means don't drive in, but it really isn't all that bad. Crowe wrote: 2. I was told that I may not want to bring our F250 tow vehicle anywhere near Boston for visiting because of narrow streets and limited parking. Should we call an Uber or what? I'll have to disagree with Paul above a bit on this. It IS a big deal to take a large vehicle into the city. There is limited parking for larger vehicles and negotiating the small streets can be very difficult especially if you are unfamiliar with the area. And we Yanks are not patient with those that are "from away" and add to an already bad traffic situation. Save yourself some stress and take the T or commuter rail into the city. It is indeed a very walkable city plus you do have the option of taxis or Uber if you wish. Re: Looking for RV parks near Boston MAWell.......... A couple of places close to the commuter rail are KOA Middleboro and Normandy Farms in Foxboro. That said, taking a pickup truck into the city is not that big a deal, as long as you find a parking garage and leave it there for the day (albeit a bit expensive to park). Boston is a very walkable town if you can physically deal with walking. If not, the subway is easy to navigate. Normandy Farms is higher priced as it is a 5-star resort. KOA is decent as far as KOA's go, nothing fancy. Either one has parking at the nearby commuter rail station. Another option is to drive up to the Quincy rail station and take the train in from there. Easy drive and there are a lot more train schedule options from/to that station. Coming from out west, prepare for some sticker shock with CG rates.
