I have the same pimples underneath a window.Re: 2007 chevy vs 9500lb 5th wheelI towed my 5th wheel with my Ram 1500 all last summer just fine. 9200lbs and 1625 pin weight (Dry). I had the 4.10 and tow limit of 10,400lbs. I was probably right at the max for tow rating but I was definitely way above my payload rating (especially with all the firewood in the back). The 5.7 Hemi had no issues pulling the trailer and the airbags leveled me off just fine. The only reason I upgraded to the 2500 was to be legal. I went with the gas engine due to higher cost of diesel and you lose almost 1000lbs payload with the diesel.Re: RV Salesman "It's 1/2T towable"My mistake. I think 2014 were 7 lug. 2015 is 6 lug.Re: RV Salesman "It's 1/2T towable" goducks10 wrote: Big difference between 1/2 tons and 3/4 tons is there is generally an upside to 3/4 tons in that the RAWR is higher. A 3/4 ton usually shares the same rear axle or components with a 1 ton. Example my 2500 has the same identical rear axle as a 3500. Springs are the only difference. I can safely load 3000lbs on the rear axle and still be under the RAWR. Try that on a 1/2 ton. With the 2650lb payload of the F150 you're maxed out. With the 2360lb payload in the 2500 you still have room by adding air bags or just upgrading the leafs. You won't reach the RAWR on a 3/4 ton when you reach the GVW. Go ahead and tow 10-11,000lbs with your 1/2 ton. It's just a marketing ploy. Not a marketing ploy. I have towed a 5th wheel with a half ton safely, legally and without issues. 2650lbs in the Ford might be maxed out but still capable and legal. Go ahead with your air bags. With 3000lbs in the 2015 Ram 2500 you will be over specs and most definitely illegal. For the F150 I think they take the axle from the f250. The only way to tell is that the f150 with payload package has a 7 lug pattern. All other F150 have 6 lugs. PS. I'm not a Ford fan and tow with a Ram 2500 Gas. Just making the point that some half tons are perfectly capable of towing some 5th wheels.Re: RV Salesman "It's 1/2T towable" Greene728 wrote: I can see comparing todays HD 1/2 tons to 3/4 tons of 25 years ago. But I was under the assumption we were comparing apples to apples. Todays 1/2 tons are not todays 3/4 tons. A properly optioned 2015 F150 has higher capacity that some 2015 3/4 ton trucks on the road. A 2015 Ford f150 Crew cab 4x4 with Eco Boost V6 , 6'4" box and payload package is rated for 2650lbs payload. http://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/specifications/payload/ A 2015 Ram 2500 Crew Cab with 6'4" box and Cummins diesel is rated for 2360lbs http://www.ramtruck.ca/en_dir/pdf/2015/specifications/2500.pdf The Ram does have a much higher tow rating and will pull the trailer better but if you pull a 13-15k 5th wheel then the 2500 might be overweight. There are certainly some 5th wheels that are definitely half ton towable depending on the half ton and the options. The F150 pulling any Eagle HT will be legal and most Ram 1500's with 3.92 axle ratio will also legally pull most of the Eagles.Re: THE GOOD, THE BAD... BUT NO SURPRISESGreat information. Thanks for sharing. Wish our gas in Ontario was that cheap.Re: What do I need to know about purchasing a hitch?I use the Sidewinder with my short box truck along with 2 other camping buddies. The hitch is under 100lbs and I can remove it in 5 minutes to give me a clean box. This setup is approved by Lippert (which makes the 5th wheel frame) so that my warranty is not voided. Apparently Lippert won't warranty the frame with an Andersen however Andersen themselves provide a great warranty. I really like the Andersen setup as it is only about 40lbs but I don't think it will work 100% with a short box truck.Re: slider fifth wheel hitchI use the Sidewinder PIN (same as Revolution). Very happy with it.Re: Ram 6.4 Gas MileageThat's about what I was expecting to see. Thanks for the info.Ram 6.4 Gas MileageInterested to know what people are getting for Gas mileage with the 6.4 Hemi in the 2500 Ram. I'm considering a new 2014 crew cab Outdoorsman with 4.10 axle ratio.
