The LONG leg of your trip is from hom Just some possibilities for you to think about. We are neighbors. We plan to take 2 1/2 days to drive there and 2 1/2 days to drive back which gives us 8 days in the middle. Colorado is our normal place to go camping in the summer because it is cool, but oldest requested somewhere different. We've been to Grand Junction many times. Our favorite places to camp Grand Mesa and Taylor River. We generally go to Taylor River and just camp at a no electric one on the river for 4 or 5 nights and then up to the one that does have it for another 3 or 4 nights. As I mentioned, we've gotten to where we don't want to be going to a different place every day. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to look them up.Re: Grand Canyon North Rim, Zion, Bryce CanyonIt sounds like a lot of you are suggesting visiting tons of places over our time, but to be honest, we have gotten where we like to see less and more in depth. We like staying places for 3 or 4 days at least. We really enjoyed our last family camping trip to Henderson Beach State park and just enjoyed staying there all week. We like hiking, playing games together, enjoying the campfire and visiting. I don't want to spend all the time in the car going from place to place like we did when the kids were younger. So.. if you had to pick two places to camp, which would you choose?Re: Birding in TexasGoose Island state park has tons of birding stations and handouts and programs about bird watching.Re: Corpus Cristie and Padre IslandI was also going to mention Goose Island. We didn't like Mustang because it was out on the beach. Goose Islands have spots on the water, but they also have the sites we loved tucked into the trees/bushes. The birds were AWESOME. It was an easy drive to Corpus.. I can't remember the town that is right there but it had an AWESOME bakery with cinnamon rolls the size of dinner plates... I highly recommend Goose Island. We want to go back someday.Re: Grand Canyon North Rim, Zion, Bryce CanyonYes, we have already done arches, so we thought we would just concentrate on those three parks. We do like hiking. We will have our children ages 19, 17 and 12 with us. I'm still not sure of the route.Grand Canyon North Rim, Zion, Bryce CanyonHello, we are driving from Texas for a trip to the North Rim and then on to Zion and Bryce.. I'm thinking 4 days at the North Rim and 2 nights each at Zion and Bryce Canyon. ( Or should it Bryce and then Zion?) Or my husband wondered if we should just camp 4 nights at Zion and take a day trip into Bryce or camp 4 days and just take a day trip to Zion? Also, we have a 32 foot 5th wheel. I keep reading about a tunnel and can't tell if we should avoid it or not. We could drive it after we drop off the trailer as another option. I'm just not sure of the route we should take. We will be going the first couple of weeks of August. The North Rim and Bryce look like they would be a little cooler than Zion. Thanks for any help.Re: shady lake campgroundThanks. I'm not on facebook, so I can't see that link. Oh well..sure looked pretty and out of the way form a you tube link I looked at. We've been to Degray with the kids. I can't find much info on Crystal Springs. Thanks again.shady lake campgroundWe have a 32 foot 5th wheel. Shady Lake campground in Arkansas looks really pretty. The forest service sit mentions the road in as being rough. Is it a problem for rv's? Also, it looks like they don't take reservations in October. We are looking at the 3rd weekend in October ( Thursday to Monday) . Will slides be a problem? I can't find all that much info about this campground. We are looking for a pretty, quieter, out of the way campground for the two of us. If you have any other suggestions. This one is about 3 1/2 hours from home. Petit Jean looked to be over 5 hours. So somewhere in the lower half of Arkansas would probably be better. Thanks for any help you can give me.
