We have hit many bakeries across Canada and Alaska and this is our favorite so far. We are leaving Homer today and will be stopping back by there again. If coming from the east, after the second light down a ways on the north (right), next to Aaron's. Turn in on the east side and there is room to park at the back of the parking lot. We did have to turn around but our 36' 5th wheel made it okay. They are closed on Sunday and Monday.Re: Roll Call Alaska 2015 jamesu wrote: What is with this never ending "Roll Call" EVERY year? Page after page after page. Who reads this stuff? Wondering why the moderator never shuts it down after 10-15 pages. Come next January 1st it will be time to start "Roll Call 2016" and start It all over again. Not trying to be a Scrooge. Just wondering. We are in Alaska now and I check often to see about updates that people put on here about the different areas they are visiting. Especially with the fires close to main highways, it is important to get perspective from other RVers. Also the last couple of years when preparing for this trip, I have read through many of the posts from the previous years. Loads of information. Another point is that when people loose interest in the post, they will no longer visit this site and it will naturally die on its own.Re: Roll Call Alaska 2015We are at Denali and wondering about traffic into Anchorage. We know the fire close to Willow has caused travel problems. Has anyone been though there recently? We are also heading down to Homer the first of next week. How bad is the smoke and are there any traffic problems close to Sterling?Re: Roll Call Alaska 2015 NewallaBus wrote: Crossed over at sweet grass Mt Friday the 29th. Real easy till the agent in the both ask where we are from. Told him Oklahoma, he looked at me like I was a member of the Waco TX Bandito's gang and told me to pull over and go in side to verify I was from OK. Went in and I was told to go back out and pull in door #4 (of the big inspection building for verification. Real nice female agent, usual questions, got a gun, No, got any gun parts? No. Own a gun at home? Yes. Has it ever been inside your rv? Yes. Then she said she was going to swap parts of the coach for residue, which might lead to a further deeper inspection, so try and remember any place I might have set it. No problem, gun had not been in the rv for months. We walked the dogs, about 20 minutes she was finished and away we went. No questions on egs, fruit, dogs or dog food. Dawson Creek Northern lights tonight, further north tomorrow. Newalla Bus Thats interesting. We passed through that same day traveling with brother from N.M. We were searched but even though he filled out papers on his shot gun, they didn't search him. Wonder why Oklahoma has been targeted. Same questions about guns but did not swab anything, just a good search. We had nothing to hide so enjoyed just watching.Re: Roll Call Alaska 2015 trcgolf wrote: Okie Lady Traveler wrote: We are in Selby, Mt ready to go into Canada tomorrow. The exchange rate on money is $100 US to $120.34 Canadian. Is there a negative to getting enough Canadian cash to pay for gas up to Alaska instead of using credit card? Do all gas stations take Canadian cash? Looks like we would save 20%. Also is there a better time during the day that would be less traffic at the boarder? How are you going?....up thru Banff? Looks like there are forest fires going that way. Let us know how it goes? We pulled up the map of the fires and it looks like most are up closer to Edmonton. We are in Banff right now and all is good. We will be going up through Jasper to Dawson Creek. I think one of the fires is NE of Hinton but we will be cutting through south of the fire.Re: Roll Call Alaska 2015We are in Selby, Mt ready to go into Canada tomorrow. At Canadian Customs they are checking for fresh eggs and chicken in RVs. Neither item is allowed into Canada at the present time due to the bird Flu issue. We only had six eggs in the fridge to turnover to them for disposal. Is it only fresh or frozen chicken? Can we take canned chicken? What about ground beef or sandwich meat? Struggling to know what to bring.Re: Roll Call Alaska 2015You forgot us. Lee & Debbie, Lawton, OKRe: Roll Call Alaska 2015Richard, We will be entering into Canada at the same boarder crossing about May 26 - 28 or sometime along there. I will have my Good Sams sign in my window so honk when you see us. Do you have a CB? DH handle is "Blind Man" and mine is "Okie Lady". He gets blind man from his occupation.Re: Roll Call Alaska 2015We are heading to Alaska from Oklahoma about May 21, 2015. We will have our sign in our back window so honk when you see us. Or if our hood is up, you are very welcome to stop. LOL
