Figure if I am raising it, I would like to be able to get some paddles and stuff under it. Was thinking about something like this http://www.truckcampermagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/stories/Mod_Contest/mod-raised-platform-1.jpghttp://www.truckcampermagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/stories/Mod_Contest/mod-raised-platform-1.jpg Any other ideas?Need to raise the camper to clear the cabI need to build a platform to raise up my camper to clear the cab of a new-to-me truck. Camper is older and originally for a smaller truck. Cabover is @40 inches. Need at least 44 inches. Looking for ideas to include additional storage. Anyone doing this? Any pictures available? Thanks! Did a search but coming up empty.Re: Small TC on bigger truckI think ithe TC was originally made for the mini trucks as the space between the wheels of the Dakota is 44" . I shimmed out the base of the TC to make it wider to fit tighter in the Dakota. Thinking about placing it on a bigger truck, possibly even a 2500. Worried more about the fit in the bed and loading then the weight no matter what truck I get. The Dakota handled it well. Trying to avoid both new truck and TC at the same time.Small TC on bigger truckI've got a shadow cruiser popup TC that I have been hauling on a Dakota. Looking at upgrading the truck. Anyone run a smaller TC on a bigger truck? What mods did you need to do to haul? TC weighs in at 990lbs and still in great shape. Has 3 legs on tripod bases. Guessing I may need to extend the leg brackets due to wider truck and possibly raise the base depending on cab of new truck. Will I need dually brackets or do you think another type of shim could work. Gots my thoughts, but as usual somethings get overlooked. Words of wisdom....(thoughts too) are greatly appreciated. If done it, pictures a plus. Picture of truck and TC in profile. Thanks for the replies! ;-) RichRe: TCM article about my family.Nice story, great adventures. May they continue and the memories lt forever.Re: Craigslist Scammers...I've used CL several times for buying and selling. Always cautiously. I use a limited use email account and ask that a phone number be included in the reply. A quick search usually turns up suspicious numbers. Also let suspicious replies go unanswered. Most suspicious emails were when selling a car, but did sell it locally on CL. I even had a successful experience selling and shipping a set of towing mirrors. This came after several email and phone correspondances. Of course we were both initially hesitant but worked it to where we were both confident. All went well. Think smart. Be smart. If it don't feel right, don't do it. Ain't worth the $ either way.Re: Infants and truck campersEARLY DAYS We started with the pack and play on the dinette bed. I have a popup and was able to leave it open when closing the roof. TODDLER DAYS I screwed a bed rail onto the dinette and used the crib mattress. Crib mattress was better for midnight accidents.Re: Truck camper for Toyota Tacoma - QuestionsMake sure you check with the parks / beaches and get something in print. A TC for small trucks is possible, however features of comfort are limited. I have a PU-TC on a dakota but despite having a porta potty and water tank, from what I have learned is the toilet needs to be a permanent fixture with holding tanks and the grey tank needs to be a permanent mount also. I asked about rigging up a holding tank on a hitch haul or side of truck bed for grey tank and bringing extra holding tanks for porta potty and was told it would not be permitted. Needed to be a permanent fixture of TC. The fear was that anything portable can be removed, carried, and dumped in the dunes or beyond. I'm sure every two people will give a different story so plan ahead and have it in writing. Little trucks like yours and mine are limited and weight adds up quickly.Re: 2006 Ford 6.0 Turbo diesel ??? sky_free wrote: Nobody has asked what the intended use of the truck is. If you're just hauling that popup and it's not a daily driver there are lots of other choices. Maybe even go to a 6.0 GM gasser or Ford 6.8 v10 of that vintage. :) Initially it would haul that pop up...and not even know it was there. I would eventually look to upgrade the TC. Would also make other hauling tasks easier. I would guess it would be more truck than I need, but then could one ever have to much truck? I put a call in to the owner to see the truck and explore what, if anything has been done. On the outside it looks clean.......which also questions why one would sell it. It looks like the earliest I could connect will be Wednesday. I had vaguely remembered reading about Ford engine concerns on this site and quick internet search was mixed. You have all addressed my concerns and more. I in no way wish to create a war, rather than educate myself. I appreciate those that shared their happiness and those that shared their not-so-happy experiences. You have given me some wisdom to ask the owner good questions. Thank you all for your wisdom.Re: 2006 Ford 6.0 Turbo diesel ???Thanks for the start all. Trying to recall what I read in the past., and thought I remembered 6.0 engine concerns and repairs. Not sure I'll jump, but might be worth a look to at least learn. Price seems high, but maybe all the works been done. Only one way to find out.....and learn. Thanks again!
