I did the same thing with my last trailer. Lucky for me, the tank is exposed underneath. In my case I went into the house and forgot I was filling it. I heard a loud bang and found a steel strap had broke off that supports the tank. The tank expanded enough to blow that off. I also had some water come through the floor inside around the toilet base. It never caused any problems though after that.Re: noisy hitch lee worsdell wrote: mine makes a loud bang every time we come to a stop or pull away. Its rocks back and fourth abit and metal on metal its load and annoying. This does not sound good. I would check that the jaws are adjusted correctly on the hitch pin.Re: noisy hitchI do not have much experience with the lighter fifth wheels, however semi truck fifth wheels require some grease between the trailer and wheel. Was it greased? Maybe those people out there with fifth wheel travel trailers can chime in on this??Re: Sway bars?I agree with the first response, $1000 is steep. I just had an Equal-I-Zer installed on my new trailer for around $700. A standard WD hitch with friction sway bars should be around $300. Enjoy your new trailer!Re: What the heck is Tow/haul for?I do not think it will help you so much towing a trailer that light. I use mine towing my 9000# travel trailer, but not my 1500# boat. I barely notice the boat is behind the truck in the first place...in my opinion I do not need to worry about heat and shifting, braking etc... However, when I pull the travel trailer, I monitor all of those things. Best of luck with your new truck!Re: New TT advice neededI had a 2009 Chevy Silverado rated to pull around 9600. It did not like pulling a trailer that was around 5500. I would stick to the lighter trailer. Good Luck!Re: Insurance on trailer while waiting for pick up?I would have to say that if your insurance company says you can not cover the unit until you take delivery, the dealer must be liable until that time. There must be some more signatures required upon delivery that finalizes the transfer of ownership. I would definitely want it covered though. I know someone that was trying to sell their used trailer for around $10,000 that decided to remove insurance on the unit. A storm swept through here in Wisconsin Wednesday night and flipped and smashed his trailer. Had he kept insurance(which is fairly inexpensive on a trailer), he would have settled on the loss.Re: Parents of teens.I would guess they are old enough. Our kids get to wonder the campgrounds as long as they respect others sites, property and privacy. Our oldest just turned 16 this past winter. The other 2 are 14 and 13. If we leave them alone at the campground, they have strict orders to stay in the trailer and keep it locked. We have cell phones if they need to contact us. We've only had to do this a few times in the past few years. But I figure if the can bike around the camp or go to the pool/lake, they are responsible enough to handle an hour or so in the camper. They need to learn some responsibility and actually be able to prove they understand that responsibility. If you trust them, they are old enough in my opinion.Re: Exactly how important is a slide?I had a Jayco 23B Hybrid with a slide. I think that it only went out about a foot. In my opinion, it wasn't a huge amount of space that was created. It was nice once in a while when we used the couch for sleeping because it then kept the isle clear.Re: New to TT need some help pleaseI just let my 2009 5.3L Max tow chevy go a few months ago. I was towing a Jayco 23B(around 5300 loaded). It towed well. I don't think I would want to go much more than that on that truck...I was pushing it's limits for towing I believe. The transmission would shift quite a bit on gradual uphill grades and in any head wind. we have 3 kids and the wife and I and that type of trailer worked well for us. Having said that, we just traded up to a 30 foot Puma with a bunk house and pull with a F150 Ecoboost. This trailer weighs close to 9K loaded and pulls really well behind the Ford. My Chevy would have struggled greatly with this trailer!
