I’m 80 years old and been blessed to have experienced some of what your Trip Reports convey to me. I’ve pulled small trailers (16 ft class) across this great county for 75K miles alone. My wife of 59 years did not enjoy uncertainty of travel. In retirement I pulled thru 2005 to 2016, into Yosemite, along Rt 1 up California coast, across Oregon, into Canada., Key West, Maine and the rest of USA over 20 trips. Some emotions one feels: Able to change direction at a whim….. Apprehension of parking in remote areas….. The danger of the weather, waking up with trailer rocking violently in Tornado country……, dressing hurriedly and driving further West in the dark looking for (to avoid!), but not able to see a Tornado in dark. Entering Yosemite at southern gate and seeing a sign saying “36 inches of snow expected tomorrow ”Need chains to enter Park” , it now being 7 PM, but entering anyway. Those emotions one experiences are as great as the scenery. To travel alone today for me…, “very interesting, BUT stupid!” To quote somebody named ”Arty from LAUGH IN”. Thanks again Whazoooo.Re: Canada - Alaska Theft ConcernsLife is a gamble...... be diligent.Re: Canada - Alaska Theft ConcernsGet yourself some good quality chain and a few hvy duty locks. Now secure the Honda Gens, Tool box and all other items that are valuable to the truck body and COVER all securely and you will be all right! Place them in ackward positions in truck bed. Watch how you park the bed of truck.... do not leave as "target" when you stop to eat and shop. Park close to store fronts if one can.... people passing will discourge all but the professional theives. I seen people who were moving from disaster area's and become willing to steal out of anger for their situation. Those people hang near truck stops in numbers and watch your movements and distract you while someone grabs "item" left in plain sight. I have traveled 80K miles (ten different trips) across country and never had anything removed from 8 ft bed with Tonneau cover, while pulling 17' trailer. I was purposely distracted by two woman while I sat in driver's seat, but quickly got "moved my Rig", out of there. You will be alright, plenty of diligence. See ya on down the road!Re: Las Vegas to Grand Canyon in 7 daysHypoxia: Thank you ha ha. Always do that.... I'm limited, must accept. This post was really enjoyable to me, and it enabled many to give original poster (Steinastein) info about his up coming trip. It got me thinking about those trips..... I'm going to try and post a movie showing the weather one could encounter driving along Rt #40 towards Grand Canyon. Now I was a man in my mid sixties with limited experiences pulling a trailer (17FT) and my reaction shows this.... Panicsville for sure. I was pulling with a 15 passenger 1997 Dodge Van with two wheel drive. Struggling with getting movie on posting.... must end without it, sorry.Re: Las Vegas to Grand Canyon in 7 daysHello STEINASTEIN: Never traveled in something bigger than an 18 feet pull along trailer..... But, I have been through that route many times..... If food is an attraction, and in particular, Biscuits and gravy, stop at WESTSIDE LILO'S Cafe in Seligman, AR. On three different occasions (in last ten years) I went out of my way to experience the biscuits (creamy dough), and sausage gravy is excellant! Get onto Route 66 at Kingman, Ar., travel east to Seligman for your biscuits while seeing the remoteness of the old highway. Hardly nothing to see but that remoteness, and I always loved it. See ya down the road!Re: Warning at LaredoSafest way is Visa card.... a call or internet contact and you will not pay after "dispute" lodged. If you do not catch charge right away (weeks) and it is an area you have not traveled.... they take the lost normally. At least that has been my experience! And an incident like that one.... good chance there were other thief's at that location and time period. Hope it works out for your customer and "no cost" is charged. See ya on down the road.Re: Body Shifted Slightly Off Frame#1nobby: My comment (post) said: I only seen one LOW BALL, which upon review was a true statement. Somehow you were in disagreement with that determination. Why? Your posting in total made perfect sense. Someone with your knowledge of trailer structures could determine purchase was a good buy. I was not questioning your post. See you on down the road!Re: Body Shifted Slightly Off FrameJohnny7744: Johnny, Johnny, Johnny.......... Your hooked by the "Rationalization" bug! Your thinking is wrong. It happens to us all..... I'm no different than you. I seen only one reply that said "LOW BALL" and see what shakes. All others said RUN! Half way through you talk about 27K being the real price and 14K is really a buy. That says it all..... Good luck.Re: Body Shifted Slightly Off FrameJohnny7744: Johnny, Johnny, Johnny.......... I do think you are going to be ok and able to help many people here. Your expression of details (and demonstrated ability) is welcomed and will serve you well............ Welcome and enjoy.
