All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRain Gutter ModificationMy travel trailer is a 2013 Keystone Springdale 311RE. It stays at my 50 acre camp all year. The gutters fill up with pine needles in a matter of days and it's a real pain in the a**. I cleaned out the Driver Side gutter yesterday and while up there I got to thinking. If the gutter fills and overflows, it's not doing its job. That side of the trailer is always dirty and I wash it every month but that doesn't really matter to me. I am thinking of putting something like a poly rope in the gutter (interference fit). That way rain water can drain into it, but the pine needles will fall or blow off because there will be nowhere for them to get caught. What do you think? Any other ideas or suggestions are welcomed. I'm now 72 years old and the wife doesn't like me on a ladder cleaning gutters. Thanks and enjoy every day in your TT. DuaneRe: How to re-caulk RV trailer roof?I've used the Heng's product but was not impressed. It seemed very thin to me. After 2 years it started to peel-lift. On my most recent trailer, I had a questionable area on my larger slide. After thorough cleaning, I rolled on a product I'd tried at home. It's FlexSeal Liquid. The manufacturer says it's good for EPDM roofing so I gave it a shot. It is very thick stuff, which is what I wanted and I rolled it on nice and thick. It dries into a flexible rubber. I used it 2 years ago and it still looks like new, and the slide roof doesn't leak. I'm going to go around the whole perimeter of the roof with a roller and this stuff to put a new coat of sealant on the edges. It comes in black or white. I used the white. Also comes in a paste you can put on with a putty knife if you have any open areas that need filling. DuaneRe: Looking for open floor planTake a look at the Keystone Springdale 311RE. It has opposing slides, and lots of room. I have a 2011 model at my hunting camp and absolutely love the room. It might not fit all of your requirements, but it has the open space you're looking for. Good luck with your search. DuaneRe: Trailer hitch pinEasiest thing I've found is a Grade 8 bolt and a nylok nut. Only way someone's gonna mess with that is if they're carrying a socket set, and that's still going to take them a few minutes minimum to get the nut off. This is a cheap and easy solution. DuaneRe: Factory Floor Repair at KeystoneThis whole foam core thing is interesting and new to me. I have a 2011 springdale 311RE that I bought from a local dealer. It was originally owned by one of the service dept employees and taken well care of or so I thought. Didn't notice until they delivered the unit, but the floor in front of the stove and sink is lower than the surrounding floor. It also seems much softer. I guess when I finally decide to replace the vinyl flooring, which is only in the kitchen area, I'll put in marine or pressure treated plywood under the new vinyl. I can live with it, though, as I'm the only one who uses the trailer which is at my hunting camp. DuaneRe: Green Valve Stem CoversI've aired down my tt tires at least a hundred times and then filled with Helium. I think I've got most of the old air out now because I had the trailer weighed and it's gone from over 7k lbs. down to just under 2k. I should now get about 150,000 miles out of a set of tires. On the other side of the coin, I run my pickup truck tires at 300 lbs each. That way in the winter I have 1200lbs total and the extra weight helps with traction on the snowy roads here in Western New York.;)Re: Toilet choices, plastic vs. porcelain.I'd go with the porcelain and also get the one that is "TALLER". It's much easier on the knees when getting up and down. Don't ask me how I know. DuaneRe: Entry Door RebuildViewing your pictures was like looking at my door project a few years ago. After you reseal the window inside and out, put the black frame back on and then seal all the way around where the glass and plastic touch, and also where the fiberglass and the plastic meet. That will completely seal the window. That's what I did to mine. Looks like a professional job. DuaneRe: Entry Door RebuildJust a little additional info to help keep your rebuilt door going for a long time, All of these TT doors eventually rot out because the window frame seals (caulking) give out over time. Take the frame, probably plastic, off and reseal the window to the door on the outside and the inside. That will keep any water from running down the window and back inside the door. I did a rebuild on my old '92 Wilderness and the door was better than new when done. DuaneRe: Keystone Springdale furnaceWell, I'm sure I'm not the first one! Went back to camp to bleed LP lines and check the sail switch. I fired up the stove burners and they lit for about 15 seconds, then went out. Went out to check the tank valves and both tanks are empty. I guess that's what I get when I let somebody use the trailer in November during deer season. Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions.
