The county laws were trying to discourage long-term 1-2 yrs as far back as 2005-06, they tried to distinguish between Mobile Home Parks (permanent) and RV Parks (temporary) as housing. Statesville was where we first heard it. Yet, a few years later, in Charlotte, it was actually an old MHP that we stayed in. They would move out an old trailer and turn it into an RV spot. In between, we also "lived" in Mt Airy. Try approaching it with we'd like to stay on your monthly rate, but we have no idea how long we're staying and see what they say. I also will add, don't look at NEW because when it's time to sell in 1-2 yrs, you may not be able to sell if for what you owe. RV's depreciate really bad.Re: Helpful tips to full timing in a camper appreciatedOur son and his family just lived nearly a year in SE MO. They bought a used FEMA trailer in AR for $2000 and lived on his InLaw's farm for basically Free. They sold it this Summer for $1800. His older brother spent Winter near St Louis and one near Wichita, KS in his Dutchmen TT. He took our advice and hard-piped the sewer, bought a heated potable water hose and rented a 100lb LP tank. It's not that difficult if you prep correctly.Re: Switch from Direct TV to DishThe Domes were designed to use with DirecTV, Dish or ExpressVu (Canada). There are a set of 8 switches inside the dome. Look up the model and then flip them according to Chart.Re: Can I bring my Directv Genie and Mini Genie to new location? Triker33 wrote: Call DirecTV and they will install a new FREE dish at your GA vacation home. And take a receiver from the RV with you. It won't be Free. They charged us just under $75 to get a tech out to install one on a pole,Re: Who all has more than one RV?Up until June, we were working fulltimers in our DRV Mobile Suite 5er. Since 2013, we've been planning towards his Retirement. Early last year, we bought a 2nd one, a Lance 1172 TC to take on a 5 wk "most" expenses-paid Sabbatical. We had the trip of a Lifetime crisscrossing the country in June with our then 14yo GD. It was so easy to pull into small 30amp spots for the night or stop at Museums or the Beach along the way without taking the camper off. But as always, Plans A, B and C turned into Plan X when back in Jan, DH came down sick and needed a hospital stay that led to surgery in May. After that, he just couldn't find the energy or desire to go back to work, so he took early Retirement. We thought we'd still use the TC, but are thinking since he now has other medical issues to deal with, we may need to go back to one RV and have listed the TC for sale. The 5er is still our home and is sitting on our RV Lot while we patiently wait for the VA to give us a diagnosis and long-term prognosis.Re: Construction Opprtunities for full-timerDH just retired from being a fulltime traveling construction superintendent. We actually started fulltiming out of Tallahassee back in 2005. But that contractor didn't have us travel enough. So we found a GC out of Atlanta that moved him every 4-11 mos, depending on the size of the project. They specialized in FF Restaurants and Truck Stops. One advantage, we have the opportunity to go back to work at anytime, if DH feels up to it and we need to rebuild savings. He only retired because of an illness that required an extensive recuperation from surgery. Check CareerBuilder and other job searches using traveling superintendent and see what pops up. There are GC's all over the country looking for Good Supers. On Edit: I forgot to mention. The lodging/perdiem usually pays for monthly Campground fees, RV payment with money left over for Groceries.Re: aux diesil tank transfer pump?We typically stop occasionally at Rest Areas to stretch and do our business. So when we had the RDS gravity feed, DH would flip the lever while stopped and it would refill as we're driving. Did have some leakage that the Ford dealer fixed when he went in for an oil change. Next truck, we bought the Transfer Flow and paid big bucks to get the automatic pump. Can't say it was worth the extra money, but at least we could monitor fuel gals easier. Now we have the Titan replacement tank so the bed is free for a TC. Best of all three.Re: Insurance for Ram 45/5500Years ago, I tried to get an F350 insurance through Progressive. They sent me to the Commercial division and it was way too high. So I went to GEICO. Fast forward to working as Fulltimers. Eventually, went back to Progressive through a broker AIS (formerly Poliseek). They list our F450 as an RV (approx. $1100) and the Lance Camper (about $500) was added onto the FT 5thW coverage.Re: Living in my RV to experience a new city... Portland, ORWe have relatives who have 30amp plugs in their driveways. IF you could find a homeowner to rent a site, you'd probably be okay. We couldn't use my sister's this summer driveway because we have a slide in the TC. We stayed at Portland/Fairview and were very disappointed. First they said, we couldn't take the Lance off the truck and leave it. Then we tried to cancel and move to my cousins. But the person, said it was okay to drop off the TC. Then when we changed our itinerary and wanted to leave after 3 nights instead of 4, we wouldn't get a refund, we were just glad to get out of there. BTW: Portland is Tiny Home Friendly.Re: Age old question - where to domicile Scottiemom wrote: One thing to consider. . . do you have a mortgage exemption which lowers your property taxes on your home you rent out? If so, changing residency to another state means you will lose that exemption. How much is it? The taxes on our rental home are double what they would be if we lived there instead of full time in our motorhome. That must be calculated in the cost of going full time. If you maintain your exemption on it, then you taking an exemption that is only available to residents of the state, but you're not. How does your mortgage company feel about that? You can still take the Interest Paid on the mortgage as a valid Income Tax deduction. And if the RV has a loan, then there is a 2nd interest to take.
