Weight is about 5200lbs dry 7000lbs gross. I'd be pulling it with my 2017 f250 super duty with the diesel. Debating if I should even use load leveling or sway control. Ford says there's no need. My truck also has a built in sway control. Ive read of people towing much more without load leveling hitches with this truck and it's almost thr same weight as my boat. ..im more concerned if not having a weight distribution hitch will be a big issue if I ever go sell it. Looking for opinionsRe: Opinions on Jayco Octane SLMy apologies. That's what I get for trying to pay with my phone. I meant opinions, not onions. But onions are delicious.Opinions on Jayco Octane SLIve been looking at toy haulers and the jayco has appealed like a good option. Lots of features I want at a price I can afford. It doesn't seem as cheaply put together as some brands yet it's much less expensive. The weight capacity is pretty good too. Any one have experience with these, or Jayco trailers in general lately? ..im also curious about a generator. One thing it doesn't have is the generator which seems like a needed item dry camping. I think it has a place for an onan but would I be better off just getting 2 honda 2000 generators?Re: How long of a trailer is too long? donn0128 wrote: As a toy hauler I assume your plannongmto haul some toys? So I guess the number one item is to find the smallest hauler that will fit your toys A lot of the newer trailers will fit our toy but there are conveniences for the living area we are looking at as well as an ease of getting the toys in.How long of a trailer is too long?I am looking at toy haulers. We have seen some things we like that are a bit bigger but we know bigger isn't always better with RV's. We're looking at toy haulers but it will be for general camping use as well. The first unit we looked at was listed as a 21 foot model but hitch to bumper is 27 feet. We prefer the next size/model up. That unit is called a 25 foot model but is actually 31 feet from hitch to bumper. We are concerned about getting into campgrounds with whatever we choose. We are located in northern California and most of our camping will be in California, Nevada, Oregon, Arizona areas. Just getting into the RV so we don't really know about any specific campgrounds we will be going to. Just looking for advice on size. We wouldn't want to get the smaller one if it doesn't help much on getting into sites. It seems there are so many massive RV's on the roads but then so many restrictions on sites. Just relying to figure out what people are doing? The toy hauler will be set for boondocking with 100 gallons of fresh water and a generator so we wouldn't need the hook ups all the time.Re: Looking at new entry level modelsI have a short bedRe: Looking at new entry level modelsI have looked at the northern lites but they only have pop ups or the bigfoot clone campers at my dealer.Re: Looking at new entry level models Kayteg1 wrote: What I can tell from my experience is that for 2017 Ford's aluminium bed shaved like 200-300 lb, what increase the cargo capacity. Suspension, at least on my dually was beefed up as well, so the truck can carry several hundreds lb of TC more than year earlier, steel model. SRW will still limit the size to medium-weight campers. Yes, I have the aluminum 250 that got rid of a lot of weight and a lot of weight up high on the chassis. They did the fully boxed frame that's very rigid and beefed up the chassis. I don't have concerns carrying a lance 865 or wolf creek 850. The adventurer 89rbi think may be pushing it.Looking at new entry level modelsI have been trying to buy a used older camper for a while but I just haven't found anything that really matches what I envisioned for camping so I am thinking I may just bite the bullet and go new. I have had a travel trailer about 10 years ago. This will be my first cabover. My truck is a 2017 F-250, crew cab, 4x4, diesel, platinum. Sits on 20" wheels. Tires are load rated at 3850lbs. I realize I will need timbrens and or stabil loads and possibly a rear stabilizer bar. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it with a specific camper. I would prefer to stay on the lighter side since its my first camper. I would prefer to be looking at 20-25k and I am finidng some leftover 2018 campers. MY short list right now is: 2018 Lance 865. I have always liked this camper as well as the 825. Lance construction seems top notch. I love the front one piece cabover cap. I don't see an electrical awning, only manual, no room for dual batteries and its a bit tighter. Its probably my first pick for style. I am seeing some 2018's for about 25k and might be able to get it a little lower. 2000-2300lbs is what I am seeing for weights 2018 Adventurer 89RB. I like this one. Larger capacities, roomy and all the features I want. On board room and wiring for generator, electric awning, oven, and a large fridge. It seems the adventurer quality is rather good. I am not sure how this compares to a Lance. The big drawback is the weight. Its showing a dry weight of almost 2700lbs. My dealer thinks its fine but he's trying to sell me a camper. Sale price of 25k 2018 Wolf Creek 850. I really like this. Plenty of storage, on board generator capable and solar. Electric awning and plenty of storage. I like the skylight in the bathroom, all the features I think I could want are in this. Dry weight of 2000lbs its looking rather good. I don't know how well the Wolf creek is and I have come across a few with some problems. I am not as big of a fan on the décor inside and out but its not bad. From the numbers I am seeing my trucks axle rating has about 3600lbs of overhead from its 6300lb rating. The f350 SRW gives about another 1000 lbs but my understanding is that its only a spring rate difference between the 250 and 350. So if I do suspension enhancements to my 250 then I could be good for 4600lbs. Any recommendations on brand? Any one better than the other or any to avoid?Re: Lance Lite 845 on F-250Just looked at my window sticker and tires. My truck has the upgraded 10,000lb gvwr. No spring or stabilizer bar upgrades. Has a stabilizer bar up front. Tires show a 3850lb rating. Load range E michelin.
