All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: ford super duty truck bed problemThis is coming a little late for you. I had my 1999 f-250 rot out real bad. The cross frame supports under the truck bed completely dissolved into a flaky croissant. I sold it and cried the blues loosing my 7.3 diesel! I bought a 2016 f250 with a 6.2 and here is my point: I now put the truck up on a lift and spray the underside, cable's, leaf springs, everything, with amsoil metal protector. A case sets me back about 150 bucks. Compared to 46 thou for a new truck, its a no brainer. I have made flexible spray can nozzles that are 2 feet long tubes that allow me to insert into the cross rails, frame, pillars, etc. I spray the **** out of the underside. This is the only way to get 20-30 years out of a truck, with out it turning into a rust bucket. I'm offering this as a solution to everyone to prolong your trucks life. I learned the hard way. I'm fortunate to have access to a lift. Perhaps talk to a local garage about after hours use of their lift. Bring lots of cardboard to put down under the lift to catch the drips. Most shops wont like the residue. Also...for gods sakes...wear a proper fitting respirator. Although there is minimal solvent, you don't want to inhale a sealant. At 1st appearance it looks watery, but it dries to a hard wax like coating that is semi translucent. I run on salty roads in N.J. and drive on the beach. I had to do something to repel the salt effects. I recommend you power wash underside, and let it completely dry before proceeding. Oh... i dont sell amsoil. I just think I like their stuff better than fluid film, and spraying undercoating like rustoleum? That just masks and covers rust. The MP is translucent and can be recoated as needed. Its also flexible so i don't flake. When your done...your truck will smell like a crayola crayon for a while. The smell dissipates quickly though. Also clean off any overspray before it hardens. Once hard, its a pita to remove.Re: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?Added LED lighting. Stripped the failing white paint from the aluminum bumper and steps. Researching how to recoat. Love the LED tube lights. Rewired the fixtures bypassing the ballast. Went with m4 and natural white. like it alot. All inside lighting is now LED and the outside porch lights too. I do not see any loss in illumination. The paint was a pain to remove. Its as if Lance did not etch the aluminum before the originally painted it. So consequently the rubber that was glued to it came up.Re: Shopping for a 3/4 ton, What fit issues should I expect?I have a 2016 f-250 crew cab....and a 2006 Lance 861 short bed camper. The fit is ideal. Plenty clearance between the cab lights and the camper, which was my 1st concern. I had a 1999 crew cab...and now the 2016....I can not really discern a difference worth mention. The 2016 is a little closer fitting, but I actually like it because it makes centering easier for me by eye...where as I used to use a tape measure with the 99. I would say F-250 no problem.Hmm...torklift getting a little sloppy?I ordered talon tie downs for my 2016 F-250. I love the idea of them being aluminum. They were costly and I had to grind the paint off of the shims on one side as the welding tolerance was off to fit over the factory hitch. The shims we're definitely needed...but I felt for the expense...quality control could be better. I do love them, but not everyone has the grinders and flapper wheels to finish the fitting. Nor should it be necessary. By the way...tough paint. Very high quality coating. Too bad I had to grind it all off. I bought the stabile loads for my lower springs and the instructions were terrible. I looked at pictures and videos to figure out the correct assembly and it too, required a skill set greater than I expected. They fit and operate as they should, and overall I am pleased with them, BUT....I was shorted 2 clevis pins and a 7/16's bolt snapped with very little effort. I needed to jack the frame to fit the grade 5 bolt through the lower leaf and the hardware was less robust than I would have expected for 303 dollars. I am not going to bash torklift, as I feel they are fielding some nice products to solve camper issues. But...they could spend a little more effort on quality control. And maybe beef up their hardware. Here's an idea too...offer a slide in aluminum step for accessing the tailgate. I am going to fabricate one...but I'm sure they would sell. My observation was one product required some tooling to fit. The stabile loads we're missing PCs and the instructions were the worse. Pictures, patience, and trial + dissasembly were required. I spent $1,053.00 on torklift products so I feel justified in reporting my experience. As far as the clevis pins? I had some on hand. The snapped bolt? I had extra. I'm just saying they should look into quality control and get better at writing installation instructions!Re: Review of Rancho ShocksIm disappointed in rancho. They let Ford use motorcraft shocks w red boots be license branded as RANCHO. Pretty dumb of them to permit this. They were aweful! I replaced with Bilsteins. I have always enjoyed long trouble free life from Bilsteins. You may want to consider them instead.Re: My new rigTatoobob....yes. island beach state park. $195.00 for year permit. Must be actively fishing. I love going there but man alive the salt chews up your stuff. I had an f250 and it was fine. No particular reason other than there were more f250's to choose from. There is very little difference between the 2. You can harden an f250 to do 350 loads easily.Re: My new rigI ordered torklift stabileload for the trucks lower helper. I sure hope that helps take that ponderous sway out. I don't have the upper helpers. I missed them immediately. I knew how to air the bags just right with them. I'm going by alot of recommendations that the stabilizer from torklift really improves the handling cause I really need it!Re: My new rigOkay the literature on the US battery did not go through. Its the US battery 2200 xc. its 11 1/8" high, 6 7/8" wide, by 10 1/8" deep. at 163 bucks apiece and 62 lbs each. Rated for 232 min at 20 amp hour discharge. I think they are a great choice and US made! THIS IS A 6 VOLT GOLF CART BATTERY. You will need two and wire them in series(meaning a jumper is required between the two, connecting ONE positive to the next battery's negative terminal) and your camper positive is on ONE battery and the camper negative is on the 2ND battery.Re: My new rigIn answer to FREEP's questions. I have added two photos. One of the battery, and the compartment, and a 3rd of the overall drivers side of the rig. The front hitch? Its a draw tight. I paid $119.65 at e trailer. It was easy to install with two people, because its awkward and heavy. I managed to cut the valance perfectly the 1st time. Just lucky. its rated for 500 lbs support, and 9,000 lbs pulling. I intend to pick up a pintle hitch and carry it, should i get stuck in the sand. It will make a great center point attachment point. Otherwise...I will use the hitch for my beach buggy basket, where I carry my honda generator, spare fuel can, two aluminum folding tables, and chairs. It fits my bike rack too when I'm not using the camper. On the batteries: I see they are going for 163 dollars retail. they weigh 62 lbs each too! BUT...they kick butt for longevity and I will never go any other way! Could never go back to two finicky alleged 12 volt deep cycles. In fact....I may add them to my boat and make a trolling battery bank! As far as everything else? I install everything myself. I shop best prices online and take my time carefully installing. I just today added LED replacement bulbs from M4.com in California. very pleased with the service I received and the quality of the leds. They are rated for 10-30 volts and the descriptions of the light color was very good. I went with NATURAL WHITE inside, and COOL WHITE outside on the sides and rear. Of the 7 inside bulbs...one was dead on arrival. They are sending me a replacement no questions asked. Their warranty is two years too. so I'm pleased as can be on that upgrade. [img] [/img]> > Re: My new rigi removed the sliding battery tray in the battery compartment and the two of them just fit! I cut a piece of 2x4 to take up the remaining space so they dont move around. ill take a picture tomorrow and add more detail.
