I am sure that we will make use of it during our stay. We were able to get 5 nights at the Upper Pines campground starting May 21. I hope that the snow is gone by then, but at least we have a spot.Yosemite Spring TripMy wife and I are planning a trip to Yosemite this May. I'll be attempting to make reservations on Jan 15th when they open. Does it make sense to book 5 days in one campground in Yosemite Valley and use that as our base or split it up with some other location? I'm going to try for the Upper or Lower Pines campgrounds. We have a 25’ class C Sprinter with no toad and will be using it for sight-seeing. Due to mobility issues, hiking and biking to see the sights won’t work for us. Driving around is the only option. My least favorite option would be to rent a small car outside the park to use for sight-seeing, but then we lose all the comforts of home when we are out for the day. I look forward to your comments.Border CrossingWe will be staying in Shelby, Mt before we cross into Canada, and were planning to cross at Sweetgrass. Looking at Google Earth, it looks like a really large and busy facility. Del Bonita crossing is a little farther to the west but still on our way to Fort MacLeod. Is there any reason not to cross there? Are the smaller crossings more likely to take your RV apart because they are looking for something to do?Re: Need infor on Forest River Sunseeker 2400 DieselAre you talking about the Sunseeker MBS on the Sprinter chassis? If so are you looking for new or used? We purchased a 2017 2400R in the fall and have only gone a 2 week trip, but we love it so far. Driving it is a pleasure and the fuel mileage has averaged around 14 so far. One thing that you should know is that they do not have a very large carrying capacity. We weighed ours on the first trip and we were 100lbs over weight. We are going to Alaska this summer and are being very careful on how we pack, and will weigh the rig before we leave. For further discussions on this RV, go to the Forest River Forums. They have a section for each model that you may be interested in. Good luck.Re: Roll call Alaska 2017With all the planning that we are doing, I forgot to add our names to Roll Call Alaska 2017. I hope to bump into some of you folks along the way.Re: Campground ReservationsThank you all for your input. I think that we can reasonably estimate where we will be for July 1 and 4, so we will make those reservations. For Teklanika in Denali, we will start calling about 2 weeks before we arrive in that area and prepare to be flexible. We haven't done any dry camping in our new rig yet, so we have to experiment a bit before we take off for this major trip. You folks at this site have been extremely helpful by sharing your knowledge and experiences, and we really appreciate it.Campground ReservationsI know that this has been asked before, but I am trying to plan our Alaska trip and want to get this straight in my head. We are leaving from Connecticut on June 6 and have planned our stops up to Jasper with reservations at Whistlers campground. From this point on, I want to be free to come and go as we please and stay an additional day or so in a town if we are enjoying the area. That’s the benefit of finally being retired, no schedule. Here’s the problem. A lot of people say that you don’t need reservations for most of the trip, but you will need them to stay in the campgrounds at Denali National Park. My wife is “encouraging” me to get on with the planning so we can get those reservations. How can I possibly know when we are going to be there? Can you try to make them a couple of weeks before you arrive or should I just guess a date and make some now and hope we can adjust the trip accordingly? What have you folks done in the past? We have a 25 foot motorhome with no toad, so we will fit in most sites.Re: Finding propaneThanks for the info, guys, that's one less thing to worry about for next year's trip. Chris, that Costco price is cheaper than here in Connecticut.Finding propaneI have looked at Church's campground book and there isn't a symbol for places that sell propane. With all the furnace and generator use, I will be going through it faster than water. Is propane readily available along the road in Canada and Alaska? Or is it like diesel, start looking when you hit half a tank. How is the pricing in Canada vs Alaska. Thanks.Re: Best time to cross into Canada for Alaska tripThanks for the info. Keep the opinions coming, we want a lot to think about this winter. :)
