My mother always realized it was because I had done something to the animal. If you have a small child they need to be monitored with your pets and taught how to treat them to avoid injuries.. I figure anyone who resorts to violence toward an animal might resort to violence toward a child if a child misbehaves.Re: Camping with a catDanny, our camping kitty, crosed the Rainbow Bridge in February. I really like the idea of having my cats with us, they are our family. My other two cats are 14 year old brother and sister and they went camping with us when they were younger, but we went seven years RV-less and once we started back up we only took our younger one as he was the most laid back. We pick up our 39'FW in two weeks and plan to gradually introduce them to it while it is parked at home. Has anyone here used the Comfort Zone plug-ins in their RV and do you think they work?Re: Homeless Cat -- Now Spotacus' LegacyWe had an issue last fall with our 14 year old female, Buffy, and inappropriate elimination. We couldn't afford the full litany of tests they wanted to do, just the urinalysis, as I had surgery scheduled with three months off work with no pay. She had a possible mild infecion for which she had a course of antibiotics. Vet recommended giving her hip & joint tablets for cats to help with inflammation. I figured her her problem was her 7 year old feline housemate, Danny. They'd never gotten along. Her brother, Jesse, would join in and the boys would always gang up on her. Well, the stress finally got to her. I kept her in the sewing room and then in February the youngster succumbed to cardiomyopathy, may dear Danny RIP. She has been out with full run of the house since Danny's passing and no issues since November.Re: Waiting at the Rainbow BridgeI just joined the forum last May and was excited to share tales of my camping kitty. Unfortunately our darling Danny passed the first Sunday in February from cardiomyopathy. It was a harrowing experience as it was very sudden and at home. He was definitely Daddy's boy! The crate, ice packs and fan worked great! That is until our darling kitty chewed through one of the mesh sides and I found him wandering loose in the trailer! I wanted to avoid that so we didn't have any catastrophes when opening the slides.Cooling while on the roadDH and I will be making a three week trip in July and traveling through Iowa and South Dakota on our way to Montana. We have a triple slide fifth wheel, so our cat travels in a large collapsible nylon dog crate inside the FW(he doesn't handle the truck well). He has food/water, a sleeping pad and litterbox, but I was worried about his overheating. I subscribe to cat Fancy magazine and saw a pet crate with an ice chest in the top, but the cheapest was $100! A stroke of brilliance led me to purchase some nylon mesh and industrial Velcro. I now have a pocket in the top of the crate which will hold those blue ice packs. We also got him a Water Boy water dish that won't spill(I filled it partially and put it in the freezer)as well as a battery operated fan to hang from the top of the crate.Re: New to TL forumCurrently we own a 2011 Coachmen Brookstone 354TS fifth wheel. We chose the floor plan with the hall closets as they would make a perfect area for the litter box. The unit just felt like home from the moment we stepped inside. We've made some modifications and hope to keep it for many years so we can travel for extended periods after retirement. We have three cats, but DH says only one may go with us.Re: best way to have cats in our 38' HR NeptuneThese are some pics of the cat privy! You'll also notice we put another Cat Hole in the bedroom door so Danny can come and go as he pleases without leaving the bedroom door open. BTW, the sight for the company that we purchased the arch from is: http://cathole.com/Re: best way to have cats in our 38' HR NeptuneOne of the features we made a top priority when purchasing our most recent fifth wheel was a good place for the litterbox, having dealt with the shower issue before. We chose a Brookstone 354TS which had a hall closet. I took out the lower shelf and installed a Cat Hole(think cartoon mouse hole!)which I stained to match. Danny uses his private facilities, the smell is behind a closed door and all are happy! I use one of the puppy pads under the box to protect the carpet. I'll post pics when I'm not at work.New to TL forumHi! My husband just informed me of PetStop. He's been on the technical aspect for several years, but I thought I could add some insight here. We've been camping almost all 28 years of our marriage and have been taking cats with us most of the time. Looking forward to sharing stories and advice.
