All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Truck camper University subject matter posts will not come up. Few issues..when forum moved to this new format everything was merged under the travel trailer group, all the links broken. IE the original TCU thread was http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/25966285.cfm With forum change it became https://community.goodsam.com/t5/travel-trailer-group/truck-camper-university-projects-repairs-replacements-tips/m-p/270921 Llink has been updated, moved to truck camper group now resides https://community.goodsam.com/t5/truck-camper-group/truck-camper-university-projects-repairs-replacements-tips/m-p/270921 However most of the content is still in travel trailer group and as noted most links don't follow to new address. Some of the TCU links do work and will open original topic but again they are under travel trailer group. While updating the links wouldn't be that large of task, issues arise as the content is moved from travel trailer to truck camper group. (unless links will auto forward to new directory). Main issue is editing... topics no longer stay open to edit. I briefly looked at updating but... Same with the trip reports thread. For the moment if link in TCU doesn't open thread your interested in, you can search using threads title... bottom line IMO is RV.net is more broken than it was. Years of accumulated info very difficult to find. At this point in time I'm unsure, with the numbers of members active since the forum change, if its worthwhile to make the effort. Second though I know folks used the resource members stopped contributing 2-3 years ago. That and DIY / problem solving doesnt seem to be as prevalent as it once was. I havent totally given up on the forum yet but logging in mostly reinforces what we lost. I havent been enjoying the new forum software, even a little, just a struggle. Keep thinking it will become comfortable...still waiting Re: Truck Camper A/C instalation Use to be logging onto RV.net was at least once a day, the new forum just really isnt the same. Its been a week.. so belated response but ours is wired direct to batteries. From what I've read, high load direct to inverter isn't a good idea and should go thru battery. I never use jacks with out charge source, either truck running or plugged into shore. I also only use 2 jacks at a time , alternating front to back while maintaining front a bit higher. (Of course older system w/manual switches so I couldn't run all 4 if I wanted 🙂 Re: Truck Camper A/C instalation Warmer weather will help... Our roof is also all wood. Though touted as aluminum framed, only the side walls and back walls are al framed. Roof, floor, wing and front walls are wood framed. The Caribou had aluminum roof rafters. But that would only come into play if you were moving, adding or modifying the hole. As to weight our 9'9 left the factory slightly heavier than your 11' due to the slide out. If you pick out an AC, likely can find/download the instructions prior to see whats involved in its installation. Good luck but other than old caulk and handling 70# pretty straight forward. Re: Truck Camper A/C instalation Assuming replacing a standard vent, Its basically removing vent and installing AC in that hole. On ours, an 01 Elkhorn it was prewired for AC, however the outlet on ceiling was a junction box with no receptacle so required a short piece of 12-2 from junction box to AC hole, AC is hardwired. I've read on some the outlet wasnt connected to mains/no breaker so I'd verify that 1st. Main task is removing old vent and caulking. That was the most difficult IMO. Tedious . Carefully scrapping off old sealant (heat helps to soften but dont get roof membrane hot, glue can debond). I used acetone sparingly after most sealant off, paint thinner/mineral spirits can cause roof membrane to swell. Once clean I covered hole with eterna bond tape. I didnt trust AC gasket covering the old vent holes and sealing. Then its getting AC on roof. If at all possible get help. I got ours up using 2 ladders but pretty sketchy. After that its just installing per instructions, Drop in hole, connect wiring and install the inside panel. I did seal our 'hole' with aluminum tape. The AC we used sides of hole is open and part of the distribution box for lack of better description, I didn't want wood exposed to possible direct condensation. Re: Sorting by newest post? Truck camper restoration? Ahhh-yes. Hadn't looked but new response to older post puts back on the 'recent' list. Rv net was also like that. I guess because there are so few actual new posts (verse replies to older posts) that I assumed it wasnt sorting-my error. That and the way topics are displayed. As far as moving content-nothing particular, just when scrolling back in TC forum just not a lot of content or jumps several years. Would be nice if the topics page for given 'group' displayed title, date and last reply date instead of including first few lines of post (or the option). Just takes to much space. but... still trying to get comfortable with the new forum....Thanks Sorting by newest post? Truck camper restoration? Regardless of forum (group) none are sorted by selecting the recent option? Sometimes the most recent post will show then one 2 years old then one a week-just all mixed up? Also the truck camper group, most past posts are still under travel trailer? Re: Any Hope for This New GS Truck Camper Group? You can change how threads display under settings/preferences/liner layout. Re: New Forum layout Thanks... bearing:) I can imagine the task- second time even more so. New Forum layout Been a few weeks...wow Navigating new forum not fun. Looked up old TCU thread. http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/25966285.cfm Found it but- https://community.goodsam.com/t5/travel-trailer-group/truck-camper-university-projects-repairs-replacements-tips/m-p/270921 Note its listed under travel-trailer-group. A good portion of the included links do not work, those that do work are also listed under the travel trailer group, not truck camper? Cant seem to find reason why some links work and others don't. Doesnt seem to be related to authors or age of post. Re: How to keep a TC from being stolen when not on the truck? While the T/L wobble stoppers (link) primary function is to stabilize the camper off loaded, in use and locked no one could casually drive under it. Bit of an advertising stretch IMO or 'added feature' alluding to anti theft.
