We have loved it but the storage is terrible and we decided we didn't really want to tow. We retire in a little over a year and my husband wants to swap to a fifthwheel for bigger storage/living space and to be able to drop/detach for longer stays. The goal is to not full time but go for a month or so at a time. We are active but not as agile or as strong as we used to be so I find the size a bit intimidating. Our motorhome has had it's share of usual annoyances and repairs but nothing terrible so we are only handy to a certain degree. We like the rear living model...but wondered if any particular model/company has a better reputation or honors warranty work without huge hassle( if we go new) in your opinion. We would like to stay under 35 ft. How important are bells and whistles like automatic leveling etc that seems to add a big $? We will try to buy within the next 6 months so we have time to search. Also...any thoughts..do you think we would regret giving up the ease of the motorhome,is a fifthwheel "difficult" to get used to :) Like what has been mentioned before. Look for a Good 30'-35'Fifth Wheel. It will be a start to see how you like towing. If you have a Friend who has a Fifth Wheel ask him what to look for and ask if he would go with you to check out the Trailers. He will know what to look for. Buy the Trailer before you get The Truck. That way you will know the Trailer Weight and get the truck to match. Also Take your time no rushing. Get what you need and looking for in a Trailer. Best of luck in your search. If it rains you have a good chance getting out of the wet grass and on the road when you leave. Not the a 2x4 Truck.Re: Traded in the Duramax this week sharkman wrote: Update on the lance 815 going on the dually, been alot of work, got the camper on tonight, made 6" extension plates to go on swing out brackets to clear rear fenders, took them back off when we got camper on the truck, 1/4 rubber bed mat, torklift anchor relocation kit, had to cut off rusty hitch bolts to put on rear torklift tie downs, got front hitch put on, off to east harbor state park lake erie in the morning. Nice, looking good. Congratulations enjoy the weekend.Re: Air Compressor decisionNow just have to find out which works the best.Re: Air Compressor decision wanderingaimlessly wrote: Not knocking either one, but I bought a small inflator from Lowes that seems to work well for my Truck. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-12-Volt-120-Volt-Car-Air-Inflator/1000092575 Quicker and quieter than my last one, works on either 120 VAC (faster) or 12 VDC, and can be set for a given pressure and will shut off. Nice. Thanks for the post.Re: Air Compressor decision theoldwizard1 wrote: I just bought a Milwaukee M12 inflator. Great little inflator. Perfect for "topping off" tires and blowing up inflatable toy. Max pressure is 120 PSI. For large tires (like Class A's) it would take a long time to fill a completely flat tire. Likely 3 or more batteries (M12 lithium ion). The best feature is, just screw it on (brass Schrader valve adapter), set the pressure on the digital gauge and press start. As I said, you had better have 1 or 2 spare batteries and a way of recharging them when you are on the road. TIP : You need to make your own adapter to fill large inflatable toys. But a 3" grass tire valve (cheap on eBay). cut off the end where it would normally attach to the rim. Deburr inside and out. Mini blow gun ! Nice. Thanks for the post.Re: When is it time to leave?Delay your trip. You can always go later. If your worried about CG, and Cancelling, your reservation, and losing your deposit. It will be a toss-up if you lose your deposit or not? Best of luck in your decision.Re: VIDEO: Funnest Thing I've Done In A While - RZR 1000 RideNice ride Jeff. We are taking the plunge in October and moving into a 5th wheel permanently. We are currently in the process of purchasing a used model and I think we've narrowed it down to a couple units but the second guessing myself has kicked into overdrive so i need some direction. The first unit is a 2011 Keystone Alpine 3450RL. Perfect floorplan, within our budget but i couldn't find a single review online. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-rv-motorhome/edmonton/2011-alpine-keystone-reduced-3450rl-mint-condition/1323503191?utm_source=com.google.android.apps.docs&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=socialbuttonsVIP&utm_content=app_android The second is a 2011 Open Range Open Range 393RLS. It's a bit smaller but has been owed by an RV mechanic (we personally know) https://www.kijiji.ca/v-travel-trailer-camper/medicine-hat/for-sale-open-range-fifth-wheel/1344399602?utm_source=com.google.android.apps.docs&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=socialbuttonsVIP&utm_content=app_android Thanks in advance for your opinions. BTW we're also open to other makes and models. I would look into the Open Range 393RLS. How long have you known the RV Mechanic and how well do you know him is important? But the unit should be well kept up. Do a good inspection looking for signs of water especially up forward around the Nose and any slide outs. Also Roof mounted A/C Units. Best of luck in your Journey.Re: Fifth wheel hitch suggestionB & W Companion.
