Wonder how my 370HP diesel would do now?Re: Vintage RAM.... what to do? LOL after owning a 24V for 14 years. I did replace my failed VP-44 myself. Lift pump is an easy fix install an Air-Dog pump. The 2004's built before 01/02/2005 had the lift pump on the left side of the engine block. After 01/02/2005 the pump was moved from the engine block to inside the fuel tank ending the failures. Dodge was told by the pump manufacture that the lift pump had to be with-in three feet of the fuel tank or it would not last. Dodge decided they knew better (they didn't). As for the injector pump again starting in 2003 the Cummins was running the CP3 not the VP-44. When I sold my 2004 with 150K+ it was still running the stock O.E. CP3 injector pump. However I added Opti-Lube to EVERY tank of fuel since the injection pump was not designed to run ULSD. Add some kind of good additive to increase the lubrication of the fuel and your pump will be happy and have a long life. https://opti-lube.com/ The 48RE is what was in the 2004 trucks not the 47RE but they had there issues too. If you kept the oil and filter changed they were fine if not 100K would be tops for it. There are tons of builders making beefed up 48RE's so not an issue there. I don't know what you mean by APPS or head pedal. But I think you are confusing the 2004 with the 2002 or 2nd Gen trucks. Don Don, my '04 OEM lift pump was still going strong at 14 years and 216K. Me Again, my '04 had none of the issues you mentioned.Re: 2019 trip from KY to Yellowstone/TetonsTake this advise from someone who lived in Rapid City for 9 years and is from southern Indiana, 50 miles north of Louisville. We used all interstates and with an RV it is more than 2 days as it was 1200 miles. Me and the DW did 750 miles to Souix Falls in '99 in a truck only and we both drove and beat. The next to day too Billings. That was really pushing it. Just advise from an old fart that's been around.Re: Adding 2nd air, converting from 30 amp to 50 ampI have a suggestion for your electricians. Instead of R&Ring the current AC distribution panel simply put in a 50amp panel and run a 30 amp circuit to current panel and set another panel for the new air cond. leaving spaces for future add on's.Re: 2018 Dodge 3500 dually gas motor row ratings rhagfo wrote: Me Again wrote: Huntindog wrote: With the supper high diesel ratings they have, how do the gas motor ones rate? Climbs hills well usually around 60 mph, no need for bags on the truck. You do not have a stock truck either do you?Re: Why 4 X 4 Navyvette wrote: It’s what sells. Usually the only 2wd trucks in the HD anymore are the work trucks where fleet managers are trying to get the cheapest truck available. I trade vehicles every few years so I get it for resale as a 2wd will not hold value. I don’t even think you can get the upper trims in 2wd anymore. I just looked and the limited is 4wd on but you can still get a 2wd anything else. I just order my 2wd's with upper trim level plus a long bed which are not stocked on lots.Re: Why 4 X 4 Tvov wrote: About the height of trucks... When I am in a parking lot with a bunch of other pickups (99% of which are 4x4), it seems like my truck is almost 6 inches lower than everyone else. One big complaint on these forums has consistently been how high trucks have been getting. Some of the newest trucks have adjustable height?!?! That is awesome! Almost like people at the manufacturers are actually paying attention to what people want. My truck is a 2008 - when I am next to friends with new Chevy 4x4s, my truck is noticeably lower (trust me... they let me know that!). So I guess Ford has raised the height of their 2wd trucks? Many models of Chevys have usually over the years have been lower than Fords - which was one reason that many people I know bought Chevys, because they were easier to get into (and they always seem to have far more comfortable seats, I don't know why Ford can't do something similar). So if manufactures are actually paying attention to complaints of new trucks height, that is great! I agree. My '04 Dodge 2wd was 4 " lower than my brothers 4x4 of the same year both 2500's. My new 2018 Ram 3500 2wd is 6" taller than my old '04. Had to modify the side step brackets so they were lower so the steps were actually usable. When shopping I could not find a Chevy or Ford that was lower than a simularly equipped Ram.Re: Why 4 X 4I am on my 6th truck since '76. I have lived in central Ill., western South Dakota, think Black Hills, and southeastern Indiana. All snow states. I had an RV in South Dakota and am on our third in Indiana. We are not the back woods off road type of travelers. we have camped on grass and got stuck after a hug rain, but every 4x4 was stuck in the same venue as was the motor homes. Three of the trucks were off the lot and three were ordered to include my current 3500 CC LB Cummins. Four of the 6 trucks were used to tow with and all were used all year round to commute with. I have lived out on county roads since June of '87 and never missed or late for work even though it was 21 miles one way. At work I got into a 2wd truck and drove to where ever I was needed to fix or install electrical equipment. Not all of those buildings were next to a highway and their lot had not been 100% cleaned. My current gravel driveway goes thru trees and up 8' in less than 100' laterally and no 4x4 needed even in winter. I chose a 2wd truck for my reasons and every body can chose what they want. Good luck shopping.Re: King Pin AdjustmentI don't understand the odd number of bolts in the first place. Mine had same number on both sides. It had four and still does after I changed it to a Reese Goose Box. Bolts torqued to 210# each. the 5th's gvw is 13,995#.Re: I-65 thru Louisville, Ky. ???I 65 north of US 50 in Indiana is being resurfaced as I type this. Just so you know.
