He wanted the 4.10's but couldn't find any on the lot and didn't want to order one. He is annoyed with the way it shifts while towing up mountains. The trans wants to stay in 4th gear too long, then skips 3rd and goes into 2nd with high RPM's. He has figured out that he just needs to manually downshift into 3rd gear when approaching a climb. Truck handles the weight just fine though, other than the transmission programming quirk. A little off topic, but my Ford does the same thing... 4th to 2nd. Usually when I'm in cruise and don't think to turn it off before hitting a steep hill.Re: Fire came out of my water faucet in my camp trailer Harvey51 wrote: No danger of blowing the tank - no source of ignition in it. If natural gas coming out the faucet, the lighter will ignite a flame. If a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen from electrolysis there will be a terrific POP as it is an explosive mixture. This is standard junior high science, which used to be demonstrated to all students before we became overly safety conscious. Leave the door open when testing. A couple of people have mentioned they didn't feel it would/could exploded the hot water tank, so that's a relief. When it lit, there was no "pop" that I noticed, so I wonder if that means it was a little natural gas in the water supply. I didn't happen again. (not that I was trying to light it! but I didn't notice the 'fog' or gaseous vapor coming out.) Oh well. I think SoundGuy and Gary were the most correct.... don't light strange vapors in a camp trailer. :) (thanks for the laugh bigred!)Fire came out of my water faucet in my camp trailerWent camping last weekend, last time I used my 2010 KZ was in July, 3.5 months ago. After that trip I drained all the water, including hot water tank, and left the low point drain open. On this trip I plugged into city water at a NV state park. I could hear it gurgling as it filled the hot water tank so I opened the hot water faucet to relieve some pressure. When I did this the water pushed out in spurts, which is about normal as the air is displaced from the hot water tank. Ok, so now here is what's weird. I turned down the hot water faucet to allow less water/air pressure to escape and to keep the water from splashing out on the kitchen counter due to the pressure. At one point, after say less than a minute of having connected to city water, a gas (as in gaseous looking vapor) came out of the water faucet. I laughed and presuming it was water vapor told my wife it looked like fog. She said it looked like gas and me being the smart ass grabbed a lighter and imagine my surprise when it caught on fire! I stared at my wife who was big eyed and it instantly occurred to me that the flame had gone INSIDE the faucet and I quickly opened up the hot water faucet all the way and the sudden blast of water pushed a ball of fire about the size of a my thumb out of the end of the faucet. No, I'm not making this up. I've never heard of/seen anything like this. Any thoughts? If I hadn't turned up the water flow and pushed out the flame would it have gone into my hot water tank and exploded, killing me and my wife? More details: - Propane was turned off for 3 months. - No smell, no odor when I lit the vapor. - Later the hot water did not have any smell either. - The low-point drain was open the whole 3 months since last use. - The anode rod is perhaps 3/4 used up, it's about 1 year old. - I flushed the tank 1 year ago when installing the anode rodRe: Weight distribution barsIf it's Harbor Freight, then I presume this is the one you have: http://manuals.harborfreight.com/manuals/61000-61999/61720.pdf So if so, then yes, grease the "round bar" before inserting it into the hitch head, and also grease the grease fitting monthly as per the instruction booklet.Re: Can't figure out new gas buddy coolmom42 wrote: RoyF wrote: Why do we rely on this stuff? Well, It's not essential, but it was nice to have. After reading the above posts (and thanks, folks) I still can't find the list of stations and prices. But when I buy 100 gallons at a time and see variations of 30 cents/gallon among stations then I definitely pay attention to the price. You should be able to put in your city & state and get a list. If not, it isn't working right. Maybe delete the app and re-install it if you can't get anywhere. x2 sometimes that's the right choice, just uninstall and re-install. It's literally 1 button.... turn it on and tap the map if you like that, or click the round logo if you want a list. If you're looking ahead type in the city, state and hit search. That's it! The top left button of the app switches from map to list view.Re: Need info on a 2016 F-250, 6.2 LAnd I know the more experienced folks will chime in, I've never towed a 5th wheel myself, but for planning I always say plan for the most. If your TT is GVWR 11,900, plan and presume that you'll be at that weight at some point, and make sure you can do it. By my math, if you add a spouse, your hound dog and a cooler, your truck will be nearly maxed out. (based on the gas engine)Re: Need info on a 2016 F-250, 6.2 LIf you look you'll see lots of info on fuel economy. I think I'm pretty normal with my 2012 6.2, Ext Cab, 8' bed, 4x4 and 32' 6,800lb bumper pull. Hwy empty: up to 17 (on a good day w/ a tail wind!) empty city/hwy mixed: 11-13 depending upon the mix towing: 7-9 (most common is 7.9 to 8.2. Lowest ever 7.0, highest 8.9) For my needs the 6.2 is outstanding. The transmission Ford hooked it to really makes everything smooth and strong. In the Rockies though, my trailer pulls the truck down to 2nd on many hills. I've still got good torque, so I'm not floored, but I typically can't hold 3d gear. I would be concerned about that much weight (your 11.9K 5'er) behind the gas motor. I like mine a lot, it's a good match up, but you're talking an extra 5,000lbs.Re: How big is big enough? When I was in the service I moved without my family once and spent 5 months in my 24', single slide. I agree with most of the people here.... A slide is a must A recliner is a must (pull out your cheap couch and put in a chair if you have to) A fixed dining table and A ROOMY SHOWER. (I think the small, camper shower was my biggest complaint the whole time.) Anyway, I would like more room and storage if I was full timing than my 24 footer gave me, I've got a 32' now and I think it would be almost too big if I was alone... so yeah, right near 30 sounds like a nice round number solo.Re: OT: My Other Hobby Is.........Geocaching...... I'm addicted. In fact, I make camping decisions based on geocaches in the area. :oRe: How much propane does your fridge use?I think I'd start with the biggest concern first: Are you leaking propane? maybe turn the frig off and leave the gas on and connected and see if it goes down? (Use a sniffer to look for leaks? $25 and more... about the price of one tank of gas) Then turn it back on and get your propane sniffer and look for leaks inside the refrigerator housing (outside and inside). And after ruling out leaks, THEN look to the refrigerator as a heavy user and look up how to inspect it.
