I'm going to fire up the lawnmower and bag up more leaves...in February. WTH???Re: Total Rebuild of a 1979 Dodge Class CYa, if there wasn't enough pressure left over to get the 3rd gear sensor to trip, you'd be 1 gear short of a 4 speed. I guess it all really depends how many cups of crud you scrape out of the bottom of the tranny pan. A bit of reference material for ya... http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?4304-4L60E-Reference-MaterialRe: Total Rebuild of a 1979 Dodge Class CAh...good...I'm speaking with experience. (doesn't happen too often ya know) Yep, I didn't pay attention to the "leaking fluid out the front" part. Is the leak really that bad? I've seen a couple leak and they've been light drips, not a full on fluid rush. You think you're losing enough pressure to keep it out of OD?Re: Total Rebuild of a 1979 Dodge Class C oldtrucker63 wrote: I bought it with the transmission leaking fluid out from the front, It will shift through 3 gears but would not go into OD Don't know how much you know about these transmissions, but failure of OD in a 4L60E (most likely your tranny) is likely a cheap fix, a solenoid, speed sensor, OD switch (if equipped), and a half dozen other things. If reverse and 2nd work fine, chances are your fix will be a cheap one and not require a full-blown rebuild.Re: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's? And I go to Ohio to get my heat fix. :)Re: Total Rebuild of a 1979 Dodge Class C oldtrucker63 wrote: If I had one I would try to pull it with the old dodge 440, I'm not that far from the lake, I think I could make it.. Remember what happened to the roof trim when you (and I for that matter) jacked up the back of the rig with a floor jack at the hitch? I'm wondering if hanging any significant extra weight off the hitch would do the same thing...move the trim around that is...Re: Total Rebuild of a 1979 Dodge Class C10,500 must be a generic number for those types of frames. I looked at a friends older Ford chassis this morning, same thing, as well as another guys Chevy. Both of them read 10,500lbs GVWR. Maybe it's a licensing thing.Re: Total Rebuild of a 1979 Dodge Class C oldtrucker63 wrote: Anyone have a 20 foot old dodge that Might know the GVW of the rig, With full tanks, I was just thinking about my build here, This old dodge will not be as heavy as it was when new, I dont think anyway, I have not yet weighed the dodge so I dont know its weight, I would like to have something to go by, I'm thinking my old dodge will be 1000 lbs lighter than it was when new. I think mine 'says' 10,500lbs GVW on the tag inside the driver's door, but yours and mine are a bit different. And as far as I know, that's a tire/suspension/brakes limitation, not necessarily a "frame" limitation. I'll double check it tomorrow.Re: Total Rebuild of a 1979 Dodge Class CFor another point of reference, I'm doing basically the same thing 'trucker is doing, but redoing a '76 Dodge Sportsman Travelcraft, a bit shorter than his, different layout, not as much wood damage, but I think I've replaced and/or will replacing more interior furnishing type stuff than him, whereas he had to basically tear his down to almost the bare framework. I've been able to do mine by just ripping apart the insides. Like 'trucker, I've been keeping track of everything I've spent, put it on a spreadsheet, etc. My estimated total is about $11,500, but in my estimates, I've rounded everything up a couple bucks and included ALL costs (including initial cost, registration, title, etc). I'll likely come in under that amount. Guess high, come in low, be happy, etc... Even still, if you spend $12K, heck, or even $20K, and get a practically brand new rig, done up just the way you want it, you'll be WAYYY ahead of a brand new rig fresh off the lot.Re: How many of us are there? Somehow I get the feeling that 999 out of 1000 folks around here would NOT jump on you for that particular comment. I'm one of those 999. Don't have a C/W/P (required here in N.D.) but keep my little buddy in the back...in case I run across a rabid skunk ya know...
