We want a class A and we will be looking for low miles and spending around 15-20K. We plan on driving this thing locally to the lake and maybe one state away. Obviously for that price the rig will be around ten years old. What sorts of things do we need to look for? We know absolutely nothing about RVs. Are there certain models to avoid? Please don't advise us that it is a better deal to buy a new one. We simply cannot afford that.SD vs TX residencyBoth have no state income tax so why is SD more often a choice for residence for full time RVers?Re: Campground rates RVing on a budget LarryJM wrote: You all realize this question has already been beaten to death from a previous thread by this same poster LINK Larry I'm sorry I didn't mean to irritate anyone. I saw a couple of responses that didn't really answer my question directly and then I didn't see the thread any more, but I think I got some good responses that answer my question now. I will see if I can find the other thread and read the other responses I never got to see.Campground rates RVing on a budgetI was floored when I saw a campground advertising on this site for 4500 a month or $150 a day for just an RV spot. To me that is the cost of a luxurious home. I want to pay around $500 or less a month on campground fees. I checked and the local lake in Kansas is $250 a month for a nice site with electricity. For $500 a month are there just certain areas that will be off limits? Is it possible to find an RV site in Florida for $500 a month? I know not the beach but maybe the interior. What is the average campground fee? Is it hard to find affordable campgrounds? Just wondering if I am going to be limited to RVing in places like Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma due to cost. I would love to RV in Florida, California, Oregon, Washington, etc. but am wondering if that is just going to be out of our budget.workamping, taxes, and social securityTo those that workamp for a free rv site is there a dollar amount reported for tax purposes and to Social Security. Does one get a W2 at the end of the year? Is it considered taxable income?Gas vs. dieselWhich is more economical? Diesel costs more, but supposedly gets better gas mileage. Anyone have both and find one more economical over the other?Campgrounds and length of stayDo most campgrounds make you move after a couple of weeks or are there several available where one can stay for three months at a time? We are thinking that we want to stay put for a few months so that we are not constantly driving. Do snowbirds winter in one place all winter long? Thinking about full time RVing when we retire, but we don't want to feel like we constantly are on the move and have no place to just chill.Do you have to have a special driver's license? With a 34-38 foot class A does one need a special driver's license?Which is the better way to go 5th wheel or motorhome?Been looking at 5th wheels and overall they seem more like homes than campers compared to the motorhomes. The big drawback being with a 5th wheel one is stuck driving a gas-guzzling truck whereas with a motorhome one can tow a gas-efficient vehicle. Which is the cheaper way to go? I like the 5th wheels better, but it seems a motorhome would be more cost effective. To those that have had both which is best?mileage on an rvIs the mileage on an RV comparable to mileage on a car? I figure most cars are good up until about 100,000 miles before they start having major problems. Hoping to get a used RV with 20,000 miles to avoid the major depreciation when they are new.
