Davidson River has changed how many sites are reservable. Last year it was about half with the remainder being walk-up - this year it is about 90%. Showed up last Monday at 10:30 AM (not knowing they had changed), and at 12:30 they gave me a choice of 3 sites for one night. I took one, and went to the gate at 6:15 AM and got first in line. Two others that had spent a one-nighter got in line behind me, and one person from outside showed up. None of us knew about the change before we got there. Camper that was 3rd in line got his site first, because he only wanted one more night. People in the walk-ups had until 10 to renew, and there were 5 that day. The first two did renew, but me and the other two waiting did get sites. The walk-up loop is the last one, and the one that is the least secluded. On the plus side, that loop being the farthest one from town has absolutely no cell service, while the others fade in and out. If you're going when school is NOT out, you can probably find a site online pretty easily. Their window is 6 months out. Next year I'll be on that site in January and February getting my summer fix.Re: Maybe I'm missing something on the water heater...Probably a hidden switch for electric - but how long is your hose to the city water and is it in the sun?Re: Backing UpI remove the bars before I back into my yard, but not at a camp site. At home I will get 90 degrees at some point, never that much in any CG.Re: What will happen? They will have a blast. While they probably won't go this far with a conversion, they might be okay with re-sale here's one for sale for 18K Personally, I would love to have a converted school bus (saw one in Pisgah) that could tow my camper.Re: too join or not too joinPurchased my trailer from CW in 2009, and got the same offer. Someone finally called me and asked when I was going to take them up on their offer. I explained that we don't do resorts, only campgrounds. They tried to tell me they had lots of things for the kids - I said every state and federal CG that we've been to has some kind of water (river, lake, ocean), and that was all the kids needed. They finally got the hint.Re: Frustrated by short beds and uniformed salesmenOurs came with a short queen that was junk. We replaced it with another short queen, cause a regular one would be too long for the tight bedroom. However, we also have a full size body pillow. At night, we pull the mattress out and put the body pillow behind, then put our regular pillows on top of that. Works just fine. In the morning we pull the body pillow out, push the mattress back, and the body pillow looks okay on top of the mattress during the day.Re: i40 Campgrounds NC to CA family of 5 and Penny the Pig doxiemom11 wrote: Riding in the trunk -- that will be awfully HOT and you may not have a pig when you get to your destination.
