I've had a number of issues that may or may not be related to the solenoid Roadmaster Remote Battery Disconnect. In the cold weather (REALLY cold -35) there were instances where my truck would throw error messages upon starting and go into limp mode where I would be forced to shut it off, disconnect the battery and then reconnect the battery (using the switch).. it would then run normal. I found on a couple of occasions the autostop would engage but when you took your foot off the brake the truck wouldn't start. Forcing me to put it in park, turning it off and back on, very dangerous in my opinion. I've since installed an autostop eliminator as the feature in this truck doesn't work well, at times shutting the engine off before you're at a complete stop (This happened before the device was installed). I recently had the engine light come on and the following day found the battery dead. I've disconnected the battery disconnect switch and will see if things improve. I suspect they will. If they don't I will report back.Re: Roadmaster Remote BATTERY Disconnect - 3.0L DuramaxI ended up just giving it a try, gambling the cost of the device should it fail. So far it continues to operate as designed. I suspect the suggestion it won't work on a diesel is because they're talking big diesels and not these smaller ones. Time will tell.. I'll keep you all posted.Roadmaster Remote BATTERY Disconnect - 3.0L DuramaxI know the Roadmaster Remote BATTERY disconnect has a note on it that it's not to be used on diesel engines however I'm wondering if any of you are using it on the 3.0L Duramax and if it is indeed working for you? I bought it before I realized it had this note and have not installed it yet.. It seems like it's begging to be put on.. I've recently setup my Sierra 1500 with a baby Duramax, installed Roadmaster Base plates, Universal wiring harness and Demco Air Force One braking system and this is the last piece I need to figure out as the battery needs to be disconnected on that truck to flat tow.Re: Trip report and need a little pep talk...My daughter fell off her bike last year and didn't get back on all year, she said she hated it. This year I watched her get it out of the shed and she's not gone a day without ridding it. Don't give up and let some bad weather or bad park turn you off. It'll turn around but you have to keep at it and learn when to go or when to stay. We will cancel if the weather looks bad, simply put it's often not worth it. Also you will learn what parks to go-to that suit your style. When you find one you like then don't be afraid to keep going back. I used to goto the same park all the time. got to the point where the same bunch of RVers would show up each weekend and we all got to know one another and stuck together. It just takes time.Re: What is a good size for a 5th wheel trailer?Well.. the answer to your question is clearly 32' if you wont go shorter. Ontario parks are some of the tightest to get into that I've found.. Start moving to different provinces and states and things change one way or the other.Re: Foam for beds/seats and replacing the coversMy DW wanted a window seat and I agreed to make it for her. Well I was blown away by the price of foam!! We had an old foam single mattress.. I cut the cover off it and in my application used a bread knife to cut the mattress in half (thickness wise so it was 4 inches or so thick) then used some baton to cover that and so on.. So.. My advice for cheap.. Start with an old foam mattress and a bread knife! I'll leave the covering to others as a window seat is not the same as the base was wood and fabric not removable. (Stapled)Re: Making the BedI use the kneel on bed, jump, pull and tuck method.. ;) Still looks like garbage in the end..Re: Furnace Cycling - SOLUTION w/ Pictures skipnchar wrote: Where is your heat VENT compared to the thermostat. If the vent blows heated air directly on or near the thermostat it could easily cause it to short cycle that way. I have one heat vent located just inside my bathroom door and the thermostat is located just OUTSIDE that door. If I leave the bathroom door open it will short cycle so we either partially close that vent or close the bathroom door. If this were the case would it not register the set temp on the thermostat though? as in.. the thermostat would show 72 (if set for 72) and no longer call for heat.. technically working as it should.Re: Furnace Cycling - SOLUTION w/ PicturesI recently tore my furnace apart (every piece) sorry to say but it's pretty much required to get to anything.. blower would start, It would spark but not ignite three times then shut down. I knew at that moment it was either orifice or bad valve. I cleaned it all up (Full of fine rust) and re-assembled and it fired right up, better than new. Based on your problem description I have the following thoughts.. It's an intimidating task but when you're cold.. you do what you need to do. Blower is coming on and there is ignition.. I assume you can hear the fires burning.. I don't believe (I may be wrong) that it will light unless it's passed the sail switch stage (Which is located inside the blower/fan assembly on mine). So I'm saying sail switch is out.. High limit switch.. I'm not sure.. I'd say not likely.. My educated guess.. flame sensor? I believe the flame sensor is also the igniter. Clean it with some sand paper if it's not working correctly.. The other thing to check first would be that nothing has obstructed your in and outtakes.. Again, a semi-educated guess.. The other thing you can and should do is reseat the connection on the control board. OR.. Just wait for the service guy..Re: Converting my dully to a 10 wheel drive to handle Toyhauler rehoppe wrote: You've done very well in your selection, it seems. Now you have 'nuff truck' to slow and control the load nicely. I'm always amazed at the folks whose only concern is wether there is enough engine to get up the hill. Forgetting that you've got to come down the other side. And NO, the trailer brakes are NOT designed to do that! lol Idot: One with not enough brains to be an idiot. They're everywhere it seems. ;^) Sorry, couldn't help commenting on some of the 'off the wall' posts. lol ROFLMAO - OK, you're right.. Lets all go out and buy class 8 trucks then, everything else just wont do. :h My comment was based on the fact that it is suggested the heavy truck is required to stop the trailer.. No it's not, you are wrong. If YOU feel it's needed then I suppose each to their own. We each drive within our own limits and what makes us feel comfortable is likely due to experience or lack of experience much like almost everything in life. Practice and knowledge is key. Some guys can haul heavy live loads and others it makes nervous. Bottom line is braking should be balanced . If you are depending on the TV brakes to transfer all that energy you may want to think about your idiot joke.. They say skunks don't smell their own stink.. OP: I never considered the brakes failing! Lets take it further, maybe 2 wheels fall off the trailer as well and there is a 100MPH tail wind pushing us down a 15% grade mountain pass with hair pin turns and angry grizzly bears all around all while the sun is in our eyes and the bridge is out ahead! :D joking ofcourse.. We can justify our actions however we want too but you don't need a reason to do what you love doing or want to do if no one is getting hurt. As I said, I appreciate your project for what it is and it's fun to watch it progress. No need to make excuses as to why you do it. (That is what I was trying to say)
